Mind if I ask why? I know I was being a little tongue-in-cheek mentioning him simply on the basis that his managerial career seems to be mirroring Ange Postecoglu's, and that there has been no mention of him at all as a potential option... but if he put his hat in the ring, would he not merit serious consideration?

Or do you know something about him that would make him a particularly poor choice?

It's the FAI remember - they might be seduced by his record in Scotland while Rangers were kick out of the SPL.

But here is the problem with this approach - get a young coach (no problem with that) - he turns out to be very good - and half way through a qualifying campaign he gets offered €5m a year to manager a PL club (or Championship club - Rooney is reputed to be on £5m a year at Birmingham).

I would hope he's ruled out on character grounds alone, even before his extremely questionable managerial record comes into it.

I think this is true but is also just something we have to live with. Better that than hire a duffer that nobody else wants (no pun intended). Basically what we should be doing is doing a Brighton on it and having a succession plan in place for that eventually. Obviously Brighton had de Zerbi picked out in advance for when Potter left and you can be sure they already have a few options lined up in case de Zerbi gets poached. (Wouldn't be surprised if Kieran McKenna is one of them).

That's the joys of hiring good coaches. If someone is offering our manager a lot of money mid contract then that means he must be doing a very good job with us. Which in turn means he's leaving us in a much much better position than he found us in. So makes the job more attractive when trying to replace said manager.

As Eirambler said if the FAI, or more so Canham is worth the money we pay for him then he'll surely have succession plans in place for such situations. A break in case of emergency plan even that might only mean a caretaker for half a campaign.

If Carsley gets the job I don't think the FA will let him bring any of his staff with him. FAI should try and have some input into helping him find a number two and try get someone they feel could be a caretaker option in case we're managerless mid campaign.

If Mark Warburton is still jobless by the time we appoint a new manager he's someone the FAI should look at as a coach. While he left West Ham because he wanted a more senior role he also talked about falling out with Moyes on footballing matters. If Carsley gets the job they've both worked together at Brentford so would assume they both have similar ideas on how football should be played. Might make another role in coaching attractive if his views and ideas on how things should be done lined up with the managers footballing philosophies.

Wouldn't rule out seeing Coleman joining the backroom staff of the next man within a couple of years.

FAI should be looking at getting Coleman involved at any age group asap. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes into some form of coaching this summer with Everton. Even if it was player/coach.

His best days might be behind him but if he wasn't injured he'd still be first choice RB with Everton. Not a bad backup option to have if he feels up to still playing.

Was looking at a long list of suspects for the job the other day and you can have a punt on Vera Pauw but not Se Coleman at the moment. Now, not saying he should get it, but I would actually have him oversee the next campaign & see how he fared, ahead of some of the washed up managerial dross on the short list to be honest with you.

Five million!!!??? That's ridiculous!!! Definitely not for us, even if he was at our price range - there's nothing in his record so far to indicate he's what we want - first season at Derby: moved a big-spending team from last to scraping past relegation. Second season: in administration, sure, and got a lot of praise for coming close to avoiding relegation, but if you take away the points deduction, Derby would have finished in seventeenth. Took over at DC United and finished last in the Eastern Conference.

Also - most of the work at Derby was done by Liam Rosenior

    Very valid point.

Couldn't see that happening - I think Warburton would want to be the gaffer.
