Whelan also works with the FAI already so assume his name was suggested by Canham also when talking about interim staff.
I think it's Poyet.
The quotes from February tie in perfectly with an interim manager holding the fort for us until his commitment with Greece is over.
John O'Shea was also Poyet's captain at Sunderland. It makes a lot of sense that he would be someone he would look to have involved. If it is Poyet from April, it's entirely logical that O'Shea would be his assistant, and if he's in line to be his assistant it's entirely logical that he would be the interim manager. He could already be talking to Poyet behind the scenes about squad selection etc.Originally Posted by Gus Poyet

They won't make an announcement over Easter, but Everton have a match on the 2nd in Newcastle. Seamus Coleman could fly into Dublin on his day off on the 3rd if they want the captain there for an announcement. That would dominate TV and radio coverage on the 3rd, fill the newspapers on the 4th, and they could have him do the Late Late on the 5th. All in all that would be a good week of coverage for the FAI.
I'm keeping an eye out for a League of Ireland match in Dublin being moved back 24 hours to Saturday 6th for whoever it is to attend

Kerr going on national radio to gossip about the job isn't a good look for a new employee and could affect any long term role if one is a possibility.
There's been a lack of any info and the media seem to be guessing mostly and that can be attributed somewhat to Canham and Hill being outsiders. Maybe keeping most info between themselves and Packie. So not a good look for the new guy just in the door a week to go on the Ray D'Arcy show and gossip about it.
I'd wager a small bet on Poyet too to be honest. I'd briefly entertained the same thoughts about Poyet after thinking about Canham's quote some more and who possibly could have contractual obligations that expire in April.
As I said on here a few weeks ago "Welcome, Gus".![]()
I don't see Robbie Keane as a viable option while the situation in Gaza is as it is. It would be a **** show.
Bring Back Belfast Celtic F.C.
Our new manager has not been mentioned on this thread. Not once.
Wrong Uruguayan.
