The nutter with the putter!
I had an nightmare.last night that Keith Andrews got the job
The FAI are actually affecting my mental health.
Trap took ages. Different reasons each time I suppose. But this time around is a new level of incompetence from those running the process - I doubt Canham will ever get away from his "contractual obligations" **** up as long as he is a football administrator. It will always just be a quick Google of his name away from anyone he ever tries to get a football job off.
Of course the whole thing is hindered by an almost unbelievable shortage of decent Irish coaches/managers in the game generally. While the new manager doesn't have to be Irish, the draw of the role to an Irishman can partly offset a salary shortfall in a way it won't for a foreigner.
I'm assuming that's a joke. Givens fell out with so many players.
Noel King I remember being in charge for 3 games before O'Neill. I remember him getting all uppity after a game with Tony O'Donoghue when he was hardly being asked tough questions. Amateur hour.
'Kevin Doyle has played umpteen times on the wing.... Now, I'm going to enjoy the rest of me time managing the senior team. Thank you!!!'
SCARLET!
Folding my way into the big money!!!
It doesnt really matter as we have a player like Evan Ferguson who is a top quality player, if we cant look good in attacking area's with him in the side then something has gone horribly wrong. He doesnt need to be as good as Kvachelia, to make a difference.
The Georgian side overall is probably similar to where they were with the addition of Mamukashvili and Kvachelia, they side previously overall probably had better players to now but what they didn't have is a solid GK or a good forward (which they obviously have now) which is why despite having these top players they are so inconsistent until they qualified for this tournament, I'm guessing Sagnol having more time with the players is probably why they looked alot better as they never looked this good in qualifying.
Saying the Irish players have "taken a step back" is factually incorrect, like I've said previously our squad is nearly twice as valuable as the sides from pre 2020. What you are seeing is pre 2020 we had managers who got the best out of their squad and now where a manager is getting absolutely nothing out of the squad and if anything is making them play worse than the sum of their parts. I mean we have a centre back duo worth 25m (Collins) and 30m (O'Brien, according to his club) and yet we cant defend...yet we had CB's duos worth 14m max pre 2020 that were incredibly difficult to breakdown. I know we just want to make excuses but at some point we need to stop putting up with the nonsense we are seeing and just ask questions. If we have a CB duo worth 55m euro and a GK worth 25m (according to Liverpool) how tf are we so bad defensively, if we can't fix that part of the team what hope is there in fixing other area's.
Georgia are better, but not because they've a better squad, they are better because they have a professional manager who's shown himself to be very good...we on the other hand have had 2 manager totally unqualified for the role. By comparing these two under these circumstances then yes Georgia are better, once we get a equally qualified manager that will change.
Hard to see how a good manager can’t find a formula for major improvement with players like Ferguson, Cannon, Szmodics, Idah, Parrott and – depending how you view them – Ogbene and Johnston in attacking positions.
Collins & O’Brien are the pick of our CBs and I saw enough in early Omobamidele to think he might come good this year. O’Shea could have played in some of the Tier 2 teams’ first XI without being shown up.
Looking at the Euros, I think generally the standard of goalkeeping has been very good. Some, like the Dutch keeper, are also very young. Makes me think that while we’re well stocked for keepers I’m not sure in relative terms we’re that well off compared to the standard required at this level.
And several of the Tier 1 & 2 teams have players excelling in their late 30s in all positions, so maybe we shouldn’t be so down on ourselves for still relying on Coleman.
Evan is still potential, he could be an incredible talent, I believe he can be, but we're going to need to see more again next year to compare him to someone who has won Serie A and played a lot of Champions league.
Also, all player value has exploded, it doesn't mean they're any better, the market is just mad, it has literally no relevance to anything, Nathan Collins isn't our best ever player, would he even be in the top 20? I also think he can be a great player, but for now he's a decent PL pro with potential to be much more he's just also happens to be most expensive ever because football is an insane sport where money is almost meaningless.
I do think our team has a lot of potential, but that's what it is, so many promising players haven't become what we hoped, but I still hold out hope for a few of them. We have very little quality and almost no depth in midfield, which is probably the most important position in football, and that will continue to hold us back. We have a fanbase with high expectations and a weak financial package available vs what very high quality managers can ask for.
That's how I'd look at it if I was not Irish at least.
