2-1 now. Penalty with Melia taken down. Maybe a little fortunate as it looked to possibly be outside the box. Well taken penalty though sending the keeper the wrong way.
2-0 now. Defending not great.

I feel at underage level when we come up against the big nations we tend to show them far too much respect and it shows in the way we play.
Obviously was always going to be a tough task to get anything out of the game even if we played out of our skin but we looked like a side that has thrown in the towel before a ball was even kicked.
Finished 2-0 to Germany in the end. Just the one game against Croatia left who are a point ahead of us and play Portugal later today.
For next season the Euros will be returning to a 8 team tournament.
I would have real question marks about Colin O'Brien at this stage, I understand its a difficult group but the way we've approached the 3 games has been desperate. We almost have the look of a side who knew we were going to lose before a ball is kicked.
Think it's definitely about time we consider changing up some coaches at underage. O'Brien and Mohan have been overseeing the U17s and U19s nearly 8 years now.
Definitely on the back of these 3 games
Ireland losing 4-0 which judging on this match is absolutely disgraceful, they've just given up and when a team get's to that stage that should be the sign that its time for change. If you were Germany in the other game you'd be ****ed with Ireland with their attitude in this match.
Now 5-0, an absolute disgrace. I dont want to go in on the players as they are just kids but the coaches really have to hang their heads in shame after this performance never mind the other 2. You could have a degree of sympathy in the other games but today was just a case of Ireland completely jacking it in the minute Croatia took the lead.

Played three, lost three, conceded 11, scored one. When you also include the three games we played back in November we've failed to score in four of the six qualifiers this season. Two 0-0 draws against Iceland and Switzerland and we beat Armenia 4-0 in the first game.
I think that paints a picture of the way the team has been set up this campaign, just safe. It was quite noticeable in the preliminary rounds that we were very plodding in our play and reliant on Umeh,Orazi,Melia etc to create something. I'm sort of glad they've been so embarrassingly exposed this round.
Less than a year later and three of the players from the squad in the qualifying stage - Finneran, Moloney, and McDonnell - have gone on to play senior football outside of Ireland. That must be a first for an U17 squad?
