Turners Cross...Capable??

Not to take anything away from last nights fantastic result, but if Cork draw a 'big' club in Geneva today, will Turners Cross be approved for the game??

I believe, should City progress to the group stages, then they wont be allowed stage their home games at 'the Cross'.

Based on the crowd last night and the fact that there were huge numbers of people standing behind the St Ann's end and in the second half at the Corner, I am not sure that EUFA will be happy with this. The fact that this was pointed out on the TV also will not have helped.

If City don't get a big name then it has to be the Cross , but if you look at the numbers that $h€l$ got for thier home leg - where would the away fans be put if there were a couple of hundred of them and how would security be managed ?????

I do not want to see the match moved from the X but it may have to and not just cause the place is too small

Everton brought 5,000 to Villareal, I'd imagine even mnore would make the trip to here.

Either way, congratulations last night. Totally eclipsed the best performance I think I've ever seen by an Irish team.

Indeed. Bring it up to Lansdowne sure! Lol. I'd say they'll be more stringent on tickets for the enxt game, I thought you weren't allowed to have ANY standing, seated only I thought.

The reason that UEFA don't allow standing at matches (I presume) would be to prevent clubs cramming people into a terrace and increase the possibility of someone getting crushed.

There were some seats available all over the ground last night but they were usually single seats in awkward places, and if you were there with a group then it was just easier to stand. I would be really dissappointed if UEFA punished City for the people standing last night.

Although I would agree with you, the fact is (as many City fans are often tripping over themselves to continually point out) that rules are rules. Etc.

I think Cork should be ok , unless Djurgardens or the ref brings it up. I cant see it happening.

Cork really need to develop their stadium though, I know they have plans at the end of the season to begin work and eventually bring the capacity up to 14,000 (or something like that ). That was according to RTE last night. Sooner or later UEFA will stick either a fine on Cork or not allow anymore games to be played in Turners Cross.

The same goes for Shelbourne and other Eircom League grounds that intend on progressing in Europe. The stadiums need to be developed to meet third round / group stages requirments so we dont lose home advantage.

If it is Everton then the 26,000 capacity will be filled in Landsdowne but does the profits from tickets get split between the two clubs ? Someone mentioned that last season but I dont know if its only the Champions League.

There was absolutely no trouble last night between fans, no fans on the pitch or officials attacked so can't see why Uefa observers would complain.

No. The Cross has the most seats of any ground in Cork. The Gaelic Grounds in Limerick is possibly the only venue in Munster with more seats.

Part of the problem last night was that the tickets didn't have assigned seats. As was pointed out by sullanefc, there were single seats dotted around the place (however I still don't know if they would have accommodated all the people that were standing).

When the shed is knocked, it will be replaced by a stand which has about 2,000 seats (possibly less), and a few corporate boxes. This will leave the Cross with a total of around 7,800 all seated. The club also want to put a roof on the St.Anne's end, but I don't know which they are going to do first.

I doubt it. And I doubt if it would meet UEFA standards. Plus no floodlights.

The Gaelic grounds in Limerick would be suitable since they have seating on two sides but alas no floodlights. Unless UEFA are prepared to waive Cork a special dispensation and allow City an afternoon KO instead, then its off to Jackeen land for the C/\wkies.

That's what I think too. Its much better to play in your home ground, I think Cork have a good fighting chance against Slavia, especially with the second leg at home (i.e. The Cross).

You could have the X to watch the First leg,Hire a giant screen charge €5 a head.
