    From Ireland.com
    Paul O'Hehir

24/08/2005: Friday’s FAI Carlsberg Cup third-round derby game between Dundalk and Drogheda United will go ahead at Oriel Park as scheduled.

The First Division outfit have recently installed an artificial playing surface and, as of Monday, the pitch had not received the go-ahead from Fifa who had yet to inspect it.

But Fifa appointed inspectors spent much of yesterday and this morning carrying out tests on the playing surface and delivered their approval in a technical report to the FAI this afternoon.

"The results of the inspection conclude that the pitch has passed all the criteria set out in the testing procedure," an FAI spokesman said.

The new pitch - the first of its kind in the league - was officially launched on Monday and club chief executive Seán Connolly said he was confident the pitch would be "perfectly playable"... (rest of article )

It was supposed to be a joke, nothing more. There are other threads discussing the merrits or otherwise of the new pitch.

Hooray the dodgy pitch is ready. Now if only they could bring someone in to pass the town of Dundalk itself as habitable.......
