    Wexford FC v Longford

Wexford secured a reasonably routine victory over their nearest challengers for a play-off place, Longford, in good conditions in Ferrycarrig tonight after an impressive all-round performance by the home side. Wexford made one change from the team which started against Bray last Friday with Aaron Dobbs coming in and went with Owen, Darragh, Ethan, Dobbsy, Luka, James, Kian, Reece, Cian, Luke and Thomas. From the start Wexford looked the dominant force and put a good deal of pressure on Jack Brady in the Longford goal. On two minutes, Wexford should probably have scored when they had a three-on-one against the final Longford defender, but only managed to win a corner. On 13 minutes, Brady could only push away a decent Wexford effort on goal, but nobody was able to follow up on the home side to finish off the rebound. After Dobbsy had a header wide on 17 minutes, Luka Lovic got Wexford’s deserved lead goal on the half-hour mark when he headed home a Wexford corner from close in. Longford’s first attempt on goal seemed to come on 42 minutes when a rebound off a Wexford defender was hit first-time but well over the Wexford bar. 1-0 to the home side at half-time.

Wexford continued to dominate the early part of the second half with the Wexford midfield of Corbally, Boyle, Levingston and Lovic winning a huge amount of ball off their Longford counterparts. It meant that the two Adeyemo brothers were absolutely starved of service and both were eventually replaced in a quadruple substitution by Longford. Wexford's Thomas Oluwa hit the outside of Longford’s post after about five minutes before, on ten minutes, Aaron Dobbs created and scored the second goal for Wexford when he was fed the ball inside the Longford area. The introduction of Magerusan by Longford improved matters up front for the away side as he had a free header which he couldn’t keep on target and later almost broke through the Wexford defence for a consolation goal. Wexford substitutions as the second half moved onwards included Danny Furlong, Eoin Kenny, Mark Hanratty and Aaron Robinson making a welcome return after a long lay-off through injury. Mark Hanratty had a dangerous shot deflected for a Wexford corner before, in injury time, Owen Mason was called into serious action for the first time when he spread himself to block a Longford attacker bearing down on goal. 2-0 at full-time and Wexford now go fourth in the table. Good performances all over the pitch by Wexford with the crowd believed to be 608.
