I don't think anyone comes out of this too great. Pauw should have just said "good luck, I enjoyed my time" and move on.

Likewise, the players shouldn't have risen to any questions, wished her well, and said "we're focused on the future now and thank Vera for her contribution".

This schoolyard nonsense doesn't help anyone. There's absolutely no doubt, no smoke without fire, and there are people who'll have been properly p!ssed off with Pauw, but at the end of the day, she's a coach, not out to make friends. She probably could have handled some things better herself during her tenure too, the Tyler Toland situation is one obvious one, but neither side came out of that too well either, to be honest.

Dragging the arse out of it now, however, is of no help to anyone, and not least Gleeson and her coaching staff trying to prepare for the game this week.

Ideally yes - but the reality is that when Pauw's contract wasn't renewed the players came in for massive flack for not backing her. There were clearly serious problems behind the scenes - and once Pauw went on TV (and given free reign to say what she wanted by the interviewer) the players needed to get their frustrations out.

I think it is noteworthy that it was Caldwell who made these comments - she is a senior figure in the squad and will probably retire from international football in the near future. I think that she was the one making the comments to protect the younger players from criticism.

The woman's team seem to get a lot of coverage these days most of it negative. Do they get any media training? If I was coming in as manager I would look to manage that as one of my first priorities.

Not as low as our men's team but low enough. Still good to see the team convincingly win.

They certainly look more comfortable on the pitch and seem to have a rapport with Eileen Gleeson - also Tyler Toland showed that Pauw was being petty by ostracising her from the squad.
