It did no harm in the 90's when we were finishing fourth and fifth in the league and were in a right mess not even challenging.

I'm not saying I want them totally gone but I want them severely hurt by this. They deserve it, they had a lot of glory overspending and then moving their debts elsewhere and dodging tax.

Rangers rise from the mid-80's onwards has coincided with the downfall of every other Scottish club. Through heavy borrowing and latterly the EBT tax avoidance scandal they raised the bar for spending through the roof in an unsustainable way. Over this period all other rivals aside from Celtic fell away and either came close to going bust or at least racked up huge debts. Celtic have reeled in their spending over the past 5-6 years operating essentially debt free and have struggled to keep up. What use is a rival who dodges tax and continually beats you with the money saved? It's like Irish football of recent years. Celtic continued to be healthy when they were vying with Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts for the title while Rangers languished mid-table.

That says they paid £500,000 to stop it. Their owner is very dodgy indeed. Seems to be racking up some amount of debt. They can get crowds of 15,000, which is very decent but think they're paying over the odds for their players re in wages.

I see Celtic are to be up before UEFA for "illicit chanting", with some of the complaints coming from their own fans.

Yeah for chanting Paddy McCourt's Fenian Army. What a joke. The police approached UEFA. Did nothing about it themselves, didn't approach anyone from Celtic who were paying them to police the event but goes straight to the UEFA delegate. Some orange monkey with an axe to grind.

We didn't sing anything about any other group. It's like Spurs singing 'Yid Army'. They're singing about themselves. A total joke.

They're normally amongst the better ones out there.

On the evidence of Friday night, we may need to look a bit closer to home...

"Paddy McCourt's Fenian Army" - that's hardnly a hanging offence. I would be surprised if that's what it is since Fenians haven't been around since the late 19th century and the word is usually used in a pejorative sense by the "other side".

You could be up before UEFA yourself for that one!

    We're certainly up there.

No chance. European nights are far superior than that. I don't think that was that great an atmosphere for such a huge game. Maybe the game itself being pretty dull had something to do with it not quite hitting its potential.

And Ireland fans finally hit the 50k mark for a massive game, we get around the figure even for St Johnstone. Ireland fans are awful, great bandwagon mind you.

A rap on the knuckles for the naughty Bhoys.

The Englishmen came over in the year 2005
But little did they know that we'd planned a wee surprise
Sir David scored the winner, and Windsor Park went wild
And this is what we sang...

The SPL have given the go-ahead for 'safe standing areas', which is great to see. There's a few hurdles left but no reason why this can't be implemented.

To be fair before the recession Celtic's average was 58k, the 5th highest in Europe.
Around 5k travelling over from Ireland for every game, even 2-3k for SPL midweek fixtures.

And yes a few would have been 'bandwagon jumpers', but no more than the thousands at the time going to Britain for every team from Man.U to Macclesfield!

Yes, even the latter had a Irish SC!

Some would also have been over to see Hibs but never met an active Hibee myself without a direct Scottish connection.

The last game we played against St Johnstone this year there was over 52,000 there. I was there but what would I know.

We're on a lean patch the last few years and we still get approx 50,000 a game. Good enough for me.

    Why not?
It's Macclesfield, not Madrid or Manchester.
    Or even Sheffield.

    Merry Christmas?

Any reply to this yet, Hibs?
