McGeady got 10 minutes at the end if the mtherwell, looked busy but not enough time to make any real impact and obviusly celtic were coasting at that stage. Still it shows he is in Strachans thoughts.

Hearts lost 2-0 to Hibernian today. Celtic to go top tomorrow. Also, Rangers drew 1-1 to Inverness

Most interesting start to an SPL season in recent years, it is refreshing not to see the old-firm racing away with it. I hope the title goes to Edinburgh this season. Although with Hearts losing today and with the departure of their manager it may not happen...

I can't see it happening but if Derek Riordan keeps on form for them then maybe they can get into Europe again. My brother is a Hibs fan and I think he says a wee prayer every night that they can hold onto him..

It's certainly been the most interesting start to a SPL season that I can remember for many a year. I'll be raising a glass to Craig Dargo tonight and hoping that Celtic can capitalise on the Jambos' slip-up today.

As an aside, I've just seen posted on the BBC website that Hearts are keen to talk to Brian Kerr about their still-vacant manager post. Now that would give an interesting twist to things in Scotland...

    I'm Loving It

    Celtic-back where we belong
Best weekend of football in a looong time-Caley delievered where it was needed as did the Hibs! Celtic top of the league and long may it continue-I bet Strachen loved the fans singing otu his name at the end of the match today-great to see Stephen PEarson getting one, Chris Sutton making up (twice!!) for the blunder and big John gettin his 99th in the hoops!

    erm....Hail! Hail!

Hearts CEO is sacked and the chairman then resigns - not good for Hearts to have all this going on in the background after losing to their arch rivals at the weekend - can they bounce back? Home game against Dundee Utd at the weekend. Meanwhile Roman Romanov Vladimir's son steps in as CEO.

Huns got a 2-2 away draw against Artmedia in the CL. After starting his career with the huns in excellent form keeping Klos out of the side, waterrus in now starting to make Rab Douglas look like Lev Yashin!!!! What a howler for Bratislavas equaliser. Rangers are 10 points behind both Celtic and Hearts in the League and November has some tough fixtures for them Celtic twice away (once in the CIS cup) away to Hibs and Home to Aberdeen, not to mention a trip to Porto in the CL. Will Big Eck still be around come December???

Celtic have been scoring freely our last 2 games goals coming from midfield and attack. defense still doesn't look a solid defensive unit but is improving. Strachan has us playing some decent football - need to ensure a win against Rangers in the League game on 19th November. Need to try and get Stan Petrov signing an extension pronto!!!! before he disappears to pastures new.

Surely despite your loyalties you were cheering for Rangers if only for selfish reasons.
I have only seen Hartson this season in the Wales v England game. He looked a long long way from the player who once turned on a sixpence to score a great goal for Celtic somewhere in the Iberian peninsula. I thought Strachan was a stickler for player fitness. I wonder how does Hartson manage to get his place on the team with little or no visible mobility?

He doesn't get his game. The only reason he played on Sunday was because Beattie wasn't fully fit. Sutton and Hartson linked up well though and could start together against Falkirk but when Harton's back he'll be on the bench again.

A lot of teams being linked with Petrov. Pay him what he wants and get him a new contract.

You can already see Strachan 's preference for speed in his sides v MON's strength approach. Hence Hartson sitting on the bench in recent games. However as eirebhoy said he linked up extremely well with Sutton at the weekend against Dundee Utd (scoring to boot) so I wouldn't be so sure he'll be dropped straight away when Beattie is fully fit. Beattie made a few selfish decisions when he came on and also didn't set the world on fire in the 5-0 win v Motherwell, when all goals came from midfield.

As for supporting Rangers in the CL. Afraid not, just can't do it. Would be happy to see them gubbed in all 6 games, picking up injuries along the way!!

Not even the carrot cake of an automatic entry to the group stages for the league champions could encourage you to take some pleasure at Rangers (miserly) contribution to Scotland's ranking. Rangers have reaped the benifit of Celtic's toil why not vice versa?

The winner of this year's SPL get automatic entry into the group stages avoiding a Liverpool type scenario. ATM are still in auto place for the following year's CL so Rangers aren't going to do much to change that.

I hope you've got yourself a good chiropractor H4E because, with all that looking up to Celtic at the top of the table, you'll have one hell of a sore neck...

I must be have been looking at the situation crosseyed. I thought Scotland had to be in the first 9 in the country rankings in order to get their league champion direct entry into the group stages. Now I am confused.
Is this not the correct explanation?
    from
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/index.html
"The UEFA country ranking is computed by the sum of 5 coefficients in the last 5 years. See the country ranking of 2005 for an example of such a ranking list. To determine the participants in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup the last year ranking is used, because each country should know at the start of the season how many places it disposes."

Still, hard and all as it might be to appreciate, Rangers collecting a few points can't do the ranking any harm in the long term

winners of the SPL get in automatically if the winners of Champions League finish in the champions league qualifying positions in their own league and so the extra automatic place goes to scotland
