    Drogs look to Engerland

United pair visit England to look for new players
    Thursday, April 11th, 2002
Drogheda United manager Harry McCue is wasting no time as the club prepares for its return to the top flight.

The Dubliner is travelling to England at the weekend along with assistant Larry Gaffney. Their aim is to discover some players that would prove an addition to the club's squad next season.

"There is money available for me to buy a couple of players," McHugh confirmed. "I'm going to England on Saturday to have a look at a few players that have been recommended to me. There will be some signings over the next few weeks."

Damien Whitehead joined the Louthmen from Macclesfield in England late this season and he proved a vital cog in the United side that finished top of the table. Drogheda are hoping that the UK option will help them again.

Indeed, McHugh is confident that the players already signed up until the end of next season will extend their deals even further. The club's board has promised the necessary finances to aid the club's return to the Premier Division.

Drogheda were boosted yesterday by the news that both top scorer Declan O'Brien and defender Pádraig Gollogley signed new two-year contracts.

at least they're doing it earlier this year! They usually wait til there's about 7 or 8 games left and they're bottom of the table to waste a load of money on expensive imports!

Drogheda do the same everytime they get promoted. Bring in foreign mercenaries who gone when they get relegated so they screwed for first year they in division 1 only to get their act together with locals & get promoted.

    The it starts allover again...

well 5 years ago our team was full of foreign types who stayed a week or two ie Lewis Coady Dave Regis Falcon Rose and we were in the premier and doing well ,now where are we!

but in the long term its better having a team of good youngters than a bunch of idiots who fly in and fly out the same day

Why don't they look to the Eircom First Division instead and snap up the best players who didn't get promoted?
