    Doolin concerned by Cup pitch

Drogheda United manager Paul Doolin insists he does not want Friday night’s FAI Carlsberg Cup third round tie against Dundalk to take place on the newly-laid synthetic surface at Oriel Park after his squad trained on the pitch on Monday morning.

Doolin is concerned that the pitch, work on which was completed only last weekend, has not had enough time to bed in.

And with players’ safety of paramount importance, the Drogs boss feels the FAI should outlaw use of the venue for Friday night’s game.

He told the Irish Daily Star: “The players were tripping over. I was out there myself. You’re walking and you’re going over on your ankles. It’s very, very uneven.

“To be honest, it’s not finished and it’s unsafe and that’s the bottom line as far as I’m concerned.”

Drogheda United refuse to play on Dundalk pitch

Drogheda United manager Paul Doolin has insisted his side will refuse to play Dundalk at Oriel Park this Friday claiming that the new artificial pitch Dundalk have installed is dangerous.

The two sides are due to meet in a televised FAI Cup third round tie in what will be the grand opening of the new Oriel Park pitch after six months of delays.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
