More money for being involved than your club had seen for all your cups that it took you over 70 years to win.

Come to think of it, why did the League Cup come into being? I know in England it was the Football League's way of creating a rival to the FA Cup with a cup of their own but why do we have it? Was it copying the English? I can only think of France outside these islands that have a proper league cup.

Don't know the history, but i like the league cup, there is something about cup competitions that attract attention, and i realise that the FAI cup is the top dog, but the league cup has now got the chance to regain a little integrity. with a nice five figure prize fund, and the setanta cup spot also in the frame, along with possible three home games in the high profile setanta cup. It allows first division sides, and weaker premier sides to win something, and bring in a bit of cash from a football source.

An all too rare occurance in this league. 2 competitions over a twelve month period is too few. Three (four with setanta Cup) is just about enough difference in footballing competitions

It was felt that the Leinster Senior Cup was being overshadowed by the other competitions and so they had to start a competition that people cared even less about.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Don't get me wrong. I like it too and they're valid reasons about its worth however they are applied to it now we have it but when they decided to form the competition I am wondering what they were thinking.
