    Wexford FC v Waterford

Tight game in Ferrycarrig this evening with it taking a long time before either keeper had to make a meaningful save. But Waterford always looked the more likely to score first as they committed more in attack and ultimately that proved to be the case. Wexford started with Owen, Ben, Ethan, Brandon, Eoin, Luka, Corban, Kian, Reece, Cian and Luke. Waterford started the better and forced two corners early on. The first Waterford corner led to a shot which was an easy catch for Owen Mason in the Wexford goal and the second resulted in the ball dribbling just wide of the Wexford post. Game shortly afterwards entered into an extended lull period which lasted virtually until halftime as Wexford conceded space to Waterford with Eoin Kenny on his own up front, Brandon McCann shadowing Perry of Waterford in midfield and the excellent Wexford back four of Boyle, Browne, O’Malley and Lynch dealing capably with anything Waterford could throw at them. Waterford’s Parsons had a shot a yard wide on 17 minutes and then, on 41 minutes, good play by Eoin Kenny down Wexford’s left gave Wexford’s Reece Webb the chance of a left-footed volley which he hit a yard wide of the Waterford post. 0-0 at halftime.

Wexford started the second half with a bit more purpose but without really threatening Sergeant in the Waterford goal. On twenty minutes, Aaron Dobbs came on for Kian Corbally on the Wexford side. First really decent save of the game came on 22 minutes from Owen Mason who saved with his legs a Waterford effort from close in but from an angle and at the expense of a corner. From that corner, Waterford’s Eddie Nolan forced the ball home from very close in at the near post which the Wexford defence/keeper probably won’t be happy with. Game opened up after that and Eoin Kenny poked wide a first-time effort from probably ten yards out when the ball broke to him quickly inside the Waterford area. Danny Furlong, Aaron Doran and Darragh Levingston all came on for Wexford with fifteen minutes to go as Wexford pushed for an equaliser. Aaron Doran was immediately set free down Wexford’s left but pulled his shot well wide and Mason in the Wexford goal got a strong hand to deny an effort from Ronan Coughlan. In the last few minutes, Wexford’s Corban Piper, who was also excellent for Wexford, had a chance to shoot from about 18 yards out, but he couldn’t keep it on target. 1-0 to Waterford at the end. Reported to have been 1,029 at the game.
