Estelle Getty, from the US sitcom the Golden Girls:
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
Aw ... I am truly sorry to hear that. She was younger that two of the other 'Golden Girls' -including the one playing her daughter!
Much of her characters attributes were originally intended for a gay housekeeper -but he didn't go down well in the pilot screenings so they scrapped him and gave the brassy-suffer-no-bull****ters characteristics to her instead.
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"
Cancer Ward and Ivan Denisovich are two great books, both personal favourites.
I had to laugh at CNN though. They had a piece on him and called him "the famous Russian actor".

I hope he wasn't watching the Dubs at the time but RIP to Dublin gentelman, legend and musician Ronnie Drew.
I heard a good line from Ronnie Drew and one that I'd like to use on mnay of you!
Ronnie was having a solitary pint (i.e. alone as opposed to having one pint!). A punter walked up to him and said "tell us Ronnie, why do you drink like you do?"
Ronnie replied "I drink to mind my own business, can I get you a pint?" !!
