And more recently, Dr Drew's Celebrity Rehab. Was in an awful state on that. An early death was sadly inevitable really.
Jeff Conaway from Grease and Taxi fame.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Flick Colby (front), founder of the dance troupe Pan's People who used to appear on Top of the Pops in the 1970s/80s and who are one of the reasons I am half blind

For quiz buffs of a certain vintage, Peter Murphy of RTE's Cross Country Quiz. Met him a few times at our local annual quiz night in the mid 80s - a very unassuming, modest man.

Irish author Josephine Hart, probably best known for Damage, filmed with Jeremy Irons and, mmm, Juliette Binoche.

Surprised this hasn't been posted before, but I only heard about it yesterday too. Martin Rushent, last Saturday.
Hugely influential and legendary producer, outstanding list of productions for those of us of a certain vintage, including the first three albums for both the Stranglers and the Buzzcocks, Happy Birthday and Pinky Blue for Altered Images, the Human League's Dare and the seminal remix album Love And Dancing.

Very sad for his family.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
Thread title edited. I'm afraid I won't be holding him in the high esteem he bizarrely achieved in the last few years. Must've been tough for the family though.
I'm not going to get into the politics now, but I wish the media would drop the "heroic" stuff already. Speaking as someone who's lost on parent to cancer, and has the other undergoing treatment, I don't see anything positive in creating the expectation that cancer sufferers should put their career, as opposed to their family, first.

Sad to hear, looked like he had overcome the worst before now. All criticism aside, he was about the only experienced politician left in FF after the last election, so in that respect at least, he'll be a loss to the Dáil.
I was wondering if I would feel any compassion for the man at all but I don't.
Atrocious human being and I'm not going to be hypocritical and pretend I haven't cursed his name for years now
Just watching the beatification on RTE, it's normal in such circumstances, though a bit ott and nauseous. He was wilting as time passed and even when he was elected he looked like a very, very ill man. The most disgusting thing, and this was pointed out on other threads earlier this and last year, he was left in palce when clearly the stress was not going to prolong his life. I'm sorry for what your Dad is going through Kingdom, and for your family too, I live in dread that any of mine (despite too many scares) go through this.
sorry to read that Kingdom.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
It's standard procedure in these things (political deaths) to proclaim the deceased as the second coming and he/she had it all (particularly by his/her own party members),the words intellect, decency, compassion, humanity and a host of outstanding attributes will be attached to him yet when they had an election for party leader he came third and finished behind Eamon O' Cuiv.-go figure.
To be fair, it's not only for political deaths. Any funeral I have ever been to, the eulogy extolls what a great person the deceased was. Seems as if there are only great people in the world.
I don't think when someone dies, that's the time to "have a go". Let the dust (ash) settle and then review the person's legacy.

Once told to bugger off by Danny Blanchflower. Got two pages in Matt Busby's autobiography. Flattened England captain Billy Wright in the cup run within seconds of the cup game to show him he wasn't scared of him.
Pretty cool guy.
