Maybe an appropriate likeness as his on-the-ball defensive work is a bit Duffy-esque too, going on that ball control in his last game that cost a goal. He may have a bit of work to do before he's a proper option I think, especially given it's the only position we have real options in.
Still, to go from a sub in Ballybofey to setting up Lacazette in three years is some going!
That was awful, but in the three games I've watched him in, it seems to have been an anomaly, as he generally looks comfortable receiving the ball and passing it around, something you couldn't say about Duffy sometimes. And it's all the more impressive, given that he's 6'6".
Even thought we do have depth at centre-back, I really think he's put himself forward as a genuine option - aside from Lacazette, he's playing in a team that contains two World Cup Winners, another World Cup finalist who also won the Champions League, and a European Championships winner. In terms of new caps, I think he should be one of the priorities for the new manager.
Also, does anyone know if Cork City get anything from future sell-ons for him, as Everton seem to be showing an interest - The Examiner reported that they got six figures for the Lyon move:https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/...-41205799.html
I'm not sure on if the solidarity payments stop after he turns 23, wording is difficult to interpret. That would mean unless he moves during January, they'll get nothing. You get solidarity payments for every year he trained at the club up until the season of his 23rd birthday (this year in Jake's case)
5% of the fee divided between whatever clubs he was at in the below ratio.

• Season of 13th birthday: 5%
• Season of 14th birthday: 5%
• Season of 15th birthday: 5%

Is he a real option though? Lyon are bottom of the table conceding two goals a game. His ratings aren't great (usual caveat there). The French league is probably the weakest of the top five. It's not a great look overall.
He's one to keep an eye on for sure, but I'd rather the talk about a defender was about his (good) defending. I think it needs to be in a position we have options in.

I'd have McGuinness & O'Brien in the next squad quicker than Omobamidele. Duffy should be phased out and I've a bad feeling about Egan coming back from this latest injury, he certainly won't be around for the first NLgames.
Those seem two fairly reasonable comments I think.
How in the hell can a small soccer country like the Republic of Ireland end up with that many decent / half decent centre-backs ~ It's bordering on bizarre ! ~ No, It is bizarre !
Joining Stoke has really dealt McNally's chances of cap in the near future a blow. His form after joining Coventry had him up there as the best performing CB in the league. So much so that only 2 of their 12 losses came after he joined. Thought he was unlucky not to get a call up in June.
Imo I'd have Anselmo ahead of Dunne, McLoughlin, Salter, and Cashin. Especially if we're playing with three CBs and he's been playing LB all season in the Eredivisie. Which is a problem position for us. So think his versatility and playing regularly should put him on that list already.
Hopefully Cashin doesn't have a clause in his contract which allows Derby to extend it a further year. Make things easier for him leaving this summer. Will be interesting to see if Brighton come back for him in January to get a deal done quick or wait till the summer.
What is it about Cashin? I've probably watched him 4-5 times. I just don't see it.
Hardly a great sample size to be basing judgement on. Especially a defender.
We're a country of relatively tall people, with a football coaching setup that doesn't really adhere to the standard pass and move academy approach you find copied and pasted almost everywhere else in Europe now. Additionally a lot of our players play a mix of sports growing up, and the other ones they play tend to favour physicality over technical ability.
Basically everything about us as a nation of people - our size, our coaching and our mix of international and indigenous sports - contributes to us producing centre backs above any other position. It's not a coincidence that, in a period where there is a worldwide excess of technical midfielders, wingers and full backs, we're an outlier that is consistently producing goalkeepers, centre backs and strikers.

Can someone tell our midfielders that! As good as we are at producing tall defenders, we produce a lot of Hobbits in midfield
