Collins didn't really play in midfield though. He just stepped out of the back line at times. We got hammered in the game. I'm not sure it was a success, wouldn't be certain we'll see it tried again.

By the same token, I wouldn't call it a failure. It was working, or at least not failing, until the red card.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

I can see it definitely being tried again. Probably not against Bulgaria but whichever seed one team we play and it's a possibility with Hungary who'll have a player like Szoboszlai.

Collins played well in that hybrid but we need to play someone like Finn Azaz in midfield also when we do. Can't be playing two workhouses ahead of him.

I think it’s probably something that is designed exclusively for elite sides, where you’re primarily just looking to contain them.

Gets his second goal of the season - the half season he's been afforded.

A feature of his right back role is that he will get in position to receive a diagonal ball or into the box to provide another aerial option. A straight forward but clearly effective tool used by Moyes. He's been doing it all game and eventually found himself in a good position as a ball was put into the box and he took the goal well. Header to equalise.

Peter Reid in the stands with what seemed to be a nice little celtic cross pin on the his jacket lapel.

Good to now have a few viable right back options, but would think O'Brien has to get the start against Bulgaria. Defensively strong, good on the ball and a threat in the opposition box for set pieces. Getting him in and moving O'Shea across to centre back should be a good upgrade for us from the autumn.

Just saw the Jake O'Brien goal ~ Did he hold the centre forward position after a set-piece, or was he playing as a make-shift centre-forward for the last few minutes of the game ~ Either way it was excellent positional play from him and a damn nice goal for a full-back / centre-back !

He also had one excellent shot in that highlights piece ~ A really really powerful shot !

Goal at about 2 minutes 35 seconds

He was up for a corner and had stayed forward for the next ball in.

A great finish and as mentioned, he had a good effort from distance before that. Good to see him thrive under Moyes after stagnating under Dyche - just shows how easily players can rise and fall under different managers.

Definitely seems like a big mistake from Dyche
now ( well with the benefit of hindsight ) Was Dyche throwing a strop for not having a say in buying Jake O'Brien ? Obviously we don't know, but some managers can be a bit awkward in such situations !

Everyone who saw Jake at Lyon knew it was a mistake. Probably cost Dyche his job. He’s always so stubborn with playing only experienced centre halves, whether it’s Ben Mee at Burnley forever or starting Michael Keane over Jake O’Brien at Everton

Fast becoming a fan favourite getting loads of praise for his ability, distribution and attitude on the below. Looks like a really composed footballer with a canny knack for goal. Him and Collins could be some pairing in the future if only playing 2 in the centre (although would prefer us with a 3 with O’Shea)…
