    Wexford FC v Bray

A point apiece in Ferrycarrig tonight and with Wexford’s player of the game, Noel ‘Charlie’ Heffernan, much the busier of the two goalkeepers, Wexford will have to be content with that outcome. Wexford started with Charlie, Ben, Hughie, Ethan, Karl, Brandon, Dobbsy, Conor, Corban, Kian and Reece. Wexford started the brighter of the two teams and Dobbsy had two headers both of which didn’t hit the target on two and four minutes. On thirteen minutes, Charlie Heffernan made the first of a number of good saves when he came out best in a one-on-one with a Bray attacker. On nineteen minutes, Bray’s Ben Feeney rounded Heffernan but, from a wide angle, couldn’t get the shot on target with Wexford’s Ethan Boyle getting back to the Wexford goal to defend it. Wexford lost their way a bit as the half progressed and Heffernan was called on again to prevent a one-on-one chance for Bray before, on 43 minutes, Wexford’s Conor Levingston had a very decent effort on target which Alex Moody in the Bray goal did well to push away. 0-0 at half-time.

Wexford brought on Danny Furlong and Matthew Dunne at the start of the second half and there weren’t chances for either side early on as the game went through an undistinguished phase. The lead goal for Wexford came a bit out of the blue on fourteen minutes when a Wexford corner hit at real pace wasn’t defended by Bray and the ball fell to Matthew Dunne at the far post who rifled it home from close in for 1-0 to Wexford. Jordan Adeyemo immediately replaced Aaron Dobbs and Heffernan pushed away a good effort on goal by Ben Feeney of Bray. However, Bray got the equaliser on 25 minutes when the Wexford defence couldn’t clear and the ball fell to Dane Massey who struck it to the Wexford net with his left peg. 1-1 with twenty to go. It was Bray who looked the more likely to get a second but a really good double save by Heffernan kept Wexford in the game and Heffernan then followed it with another good save low down to his left to leave the score at 1-1 at full-time. In addition to Charlie Heffernan, best for the home side were Ethan Boyle, Corban Piper and Reece Webb. Crowd was, I believe, 672.
