    Wexford FC v Treaty

Game which Wexford should probably have nicked but ultimately a share of the points in Ferrycarrig tonight. First half was also affected by a floodlight failure which lasted thirteen minutes. Wexford started with Heffernan, D. Levingston, Ben Lynch, Douglas, Boyle, Dobbs, Hanratty, Crawford, Furlong, Piper and Tallon. Wexford were very slow to get going for the first twenty minutes or so and weren’t helped by the floodlight failure after six minutes. When the lights came back on, it was Treaty who looked the more likely to score with a free header at the far post which wasn’t kept on target and a good block by Hugh Douglas to stop a Treaty shot from threatening Charlie Heffernan’s goal. From midway through the first half, Wexford started to go through the gears with Danny Furlong having a header over the Treaty bar and Ben Lynch ‘s effort being deflected by a Treaty defender just past his own post. On 39 minutes, however, a Treaty break resulted in Charlie Heffernan taking down the Treaty forward in the act of rounding the Wexford netminder. The referee pointed to the spot and Heffernan was shown a yellow card. Enda Curran converted from the spot to put Treaty a goal to the good. Just before the end of the half, Aaron Dobbs was put through on the Treaty goal but he either miskicked or the recovering Treaty got a touch as Hallahan in the Treaty goal didn’t have to make a save. 1-0 to Treaty at half-time.

The second half was better than the first with the home side much improved. The half was only two minutes old when Darragh Levingston met a cross from the left with a firm header to the bottom right-hand corner to put Wexford back on equal terms. Treaty then had a good chance to go ahead again with a clear goal chance but the shot was scooped poorly wide of the Wexford goal. Wexford continued to press for a second goal with Danny Furlong having a half-chance and Wexford winning a number of corners to put pressure on Hallahan’s goal. A good tackle by Ben Lynch of Wexford prevented a dangerous Treaty break from giving the away side a shock lead before Aaron Dobbs had a decent effort touched over his own bar by Hallahan at the expense of a corner. Late sub for Wexford was Aaron Doran. So 1-1 at full-time. Best for Wexford were Darragh Levingston, Danny Furlong and Ethan Boyle with Furlong and Dobbs looking like they have the makings of a good partnership up front. Also impressive was Ben Lynch who I don’t think has started for us before. Wexford still have a rake of midfielders out through injury and hopefully at least one or two will be back before the next game when Galway visit Ferrycarrig. Crowd was, I believe, 568.
