    The FAI Response

    Media Statement:

eircom League Chairman Paddy McCaul has today (August 9th) called on all eircom League clubs to ensure that their club officials, players, technical staff and supporters abide by the laws and regulations of the game and show respect to match officials, opponents and representatives of other clubs.

“The eircom League will not tolerate any behaviour that sullies the image of Irish domestic soccer. Any reported infringements on the field of play will be dealt with by the FAI Disciplinary Commission as well as the Executive of the eircom League where necessary. Clubs must realise that, at a time when there are a number of ongoing initiatives aimed at encouraging more people, especially families and young children to attend eircom League matches, images of players, technical staff and officials engaging in any such behaviour is totally counter-productive and deeply damaging to the game as a whole,” McCaul said.

That statement is a f**kin disgrace!!!

"All clubs"??? So when it's anyone else they finger the club and when its Oily it's chastisement for everyone. That is an absolute joke.

Exactly which other clubs have this problem? If I was a Rovers fan I would feel very, very hard done that they get docked 8 points for administrative irregularities and here a manager and a chairman are consistently attacking officials, taunting fans, attacking other managers and nothing.

Remember that ManU and Arsenal have previously been docked points for on-pitch fights in England and fan violence regularly leads to points deductions or playing behind closed doors across Europe (although for Shels you probably wouldn't notice too much of a difference TBH).

On top of everything else, I hope the League takes responsibility when a referee is seriously assaulted by one of these muppets or their fans

Any reported infringements on the field of play will not be dealt with by the FAI Disciplinary Commission nor by the Executive of the eircom League even when necessary. Clubs must realise that there are a number of ongoing initiatives aimed at encouraging Shelbourne FC; images of players, technical staff and officials engaging in any such behaviour is understandable but it makes our inaction look bad, so can you cool it until this blows over lads”

It's an absolute disgrace that the League hasn't at least highlighted that this statement was released because of the actions of only one club.
The fact that disciplinary decisions are taken (or at least announced) so sporadically means that everyone is off the hook for about a month.

The statement would be fine IF the league actually acted on it. Threats are no use if not acted on.
