There's a separate conversation going on in the euro thread about the standard of the league being at a low ebb this year. I think there's some merit to it but think it's been an over-reaction to a couple of games. Even if the standard of the top teams has come off its peak I would still be off the opinion that the general health of the league has never been in better place since I began following in 15 or so years ago.
The strength of the rivalries at home is much more important for the future of the game here vs Champions League results imo. I always thought Euro results were the key to a strong LOI but that's putting the cart before the horse. Having sell out games (facilities not withstanding) and a tv deal are much more important for the growth of the game here.
1257 at Athlone v Galway is a decent number too for this time of year.
About 2000 at the Showgrounds last nite with about 100+ away fans up from Cork, fair play to them in awful conditions.
Great noise between both fans at Tolka watching the Shels/Bohs game, real traditional soccer atmosphere!
Although the stadium looks dilapidated and run down, I think it really adds to the feel and what the League has to offer, of a real traditional soccer ground and game.
If we could just get the facilities to match what is going on with the clubs and their structure, things would really take off!
What other team game has a great structure and mixture that highlights young talent, experienced players and great diversity through all the teams.
It really is "The greatest little league in the World"

It really isnt that bad you know
Lets be honest, for too many years we have been accepting these facilities.
The league has to be competitive in the football business'
And, it's not just the format that needs to change, its the basic infrastructure which for our league now is the facilities.
We have to be able to attract all walks of society and if the product is presented with proper facilities, such as covered seating/terracing, clean toilet facilities for men/women and reasonable catering, it can only attract more passing supporters!
