Im not sure that is the case. Provenical Rugby attendences are falling. I don't know the story with Gaa though (its also hard to strip fact from fiction with them).

Lower league Football seems to be growing in Britain too, so for me, it represents a growing apathy with the Premier League (maybe not alack of interest, but a growing lack of passion for it)- hence people are still very interested in football, but get there passion kicks from somehwere else. The best thing that could happen to the LOI now is for Qatar to buy Liverpool and United.

With the GAA, not sure that the early Championship rounds are seeing great attendances, but the football League has certainly seen a significant upturn in interest, with games in Tralee, Castlebar and Derry recording gates of 13-15k, which would have been unthinkable a few short years ago.

2 of those 3 games had a significant curiosity value, seeing if Derry could beat Dublin showing the dominant side are declining, and a derby like rivalry where Roscommon were expected to put it up to their dominant neighbour and it was division semi-final like. It doesnt change the point that much but I think those games would have seen big gates by usual standards anyway. I always think club games especially at the latter end of county championships are a better gauge of things.

It's been noted in media on a number of occasions that live sport in various countries has seen a surgeb in numbers since Covid.

The National league used to be very much the poor relation in the GAA. i've been to games for large counties in the past where there were literally no more than hundreds at them. Crowds are definitely up overall at GAA league matches.

Which Irish provincial rugby sides have seen crowds dropping off, and by how many ?

In the last full season before Covid hit, 2018-19, the average home attendance for the four Irish provinces was 12,502, which last season was down to 10,242. Each of the quartet saw a reduction in their average URC attendance when comparing the two seasons, with Leinster’s average attendance dropping from 17,242 to 14,138, and likewise for Ulster (13,835 down to 11,469), Munster (12,918 down to 11,345) and Connacht (6,013 down to 5,081).

Especially as the Waterford away support would have been quite small due to their supporters bus being cancelled.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

Funny how similar the 3 smaller FD were last night. 700+ attendances means that there should at least be that baseline atmosphere which is almost impossible to create with <500.

Even if the home results weren't great last night hopefully the people enjoyed the night out.

I fear for Kerry's support moving forwards after that result on Friday. Watching a team that gets hammered is no fun.

Hopfully they're new fanbase understand that Galway are essentially a Premier Division club in waiting, and that all clubs have bad days at the office.

Assuming they follow the same schedule as the Treaty game, the Athlone tickets will be released on Thursday, so won't have to wait long to see.

It's a pity management didn't fully understand that Galway are essentially a Premier Division club. Kerry's previous match was an entertaining 1 all draw that could have been 3 all. Comments like yours are an overreaction to one match.

Those tickets should have been on sale last week. The next home game tickets should always be released a few days after the previous home game.

    A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.

It is even possible to over-react to a 9-1 defeat?

More that, as legendz says, it'll be mostly the home displays that will have an impact in that regard.
