Amazing band, 'Absolution' is an amazing piece of work. IMO 'Butterflies and Hurricanes', is one of the best singles of the last 10 years. The lyrics are inspiring as well.Originally Posted by Gerrit
Just noticed in the Coldplay topic that people are debating on who's the best Britpop band to date... Radiohead vs Coldplay.
I will leave out Placebo (who are, along with Echo & The Bunnymen, my grand favourites in music) as that's more "indie" than the others, but even then, why mention Coldplay and Radiohead and even Oasis... and not Muse ??
I think Muse is by far the most talented band that has risen in the UK in the last 10 years (Placebo are slightly older) ; Matt Bellamy is an amazing vocalist. His variety of tones and vocal reach is fantastic. "Absolution" is a cracker album IMO, "Hysteria" + "Time is running out" + "Stockholm Syndrome" are all grand songs, and "Butterflies and hurricanes" is simply fantastic and it's a piece of music most modern artists wouldn't even dare to do...

I don't know if the lyrics should not be labelled as 'rather depressing' though... I mean, "you got to be the best and use this chance to be heard" has a rather definite/last-chance-like undertone...
Brilliant band indeed. Even their less good lyrics such as Hypermusic ; the energy of the song and Matt's excellent vocals all compensate that.
IMO, none of the above bands are part of the Britpop genre as was defined by music type. Oasis were thrown in there because they competed commercially with Britpop bands but i'm not sure their music was the same at all. Britpop is one of the weakest genres anyway in that the bands that were part of it either had one album and fell off the face of the planet or else they had one or two albums that stick out from the rest of their catalogue by being 'Britpop'.Originally Posted by Gerrit
