    Shels must be worried

They must be worried as they are starting their "mind games" early.

In the Star today Alan Moore said he "felt City would not last the pace and would crack before the season's over"

    Yeah, yeah, yeah.

    Worried about €'s maybe!

I think it will be very interesting come end of season how many players Pat Fenlon signs. By the way its a little known fact Pat used to be Bosco on Rte television. So there you go. A nice little man. This could become huge because Shels must of forked out big time to sign who they did. Have they banked on success the way Leeds did? Well no Landsdowne Road this year mateys!! Imagine we beat them Monday week and little Pat could even get the boot. Make no mistake this is a club under PRESSURE.

I doubt those in the club banked on making it past any stages in Europe, I don't think there's any way any club over here could conceivably do that - we're still too unpredictable, and often come very unstuck against teams we should conceivably beat. Well, Longford do anyways (Only joking lads, calm down! ).
Perhaps in a few years clubs can begin to think like that, but after what happened to Hajduk Split after we beat them (they went virtually bust AFAIK as they had banked on beating us), I seriously doubt anyone could realistically do that.

We don't need to go mad shopping in the transfer market, or so I would believe anyways. We have an excellent squad at our disposal, and I would be happy enough to replace any players that leave, and maybe even not replace others as I sometimes think our squad is too large.

There's no way Pat Fenlon will get the boot. For one, he has 5 1/2 years remaining on his contract. Two, he's one of, if not our best ever managers. (2nd place [in his first year EVER managing], 1st place, 1st place [and that euro campaign]). Three, I love him! Four, third place would not be the end of the world. Even Jose Mourinho will be doing well to win three league titles in a row, and if we still finish in the top 3 its not a bad result. I can think of other clubs who would love that sequence of league finishes.

I agree about Pat Fenlon. There is no way he should get the boot or even be considered for it. But i believe it is conceivable that Shels made decisions during the off season thinking they may the team to break the mould as regards Europe. To reach for the sky as it were. Im sure attendance figures were part of any budget considerations. If Shels lose on Monday week and the season tapers off to a sad end it is surely conceivable that predicted budgets could be way off the mark. The Leeds comparison might appear ridiculous but its all relative. People got over excited and went for broke. When it all goes pear shaped they sack the manager and lose their best players. Thats why Shels have Crowe and Derry have Kenny. It might also be plausible that the Cork City chairman Brain Lennox foresaw City going the same way and thats why we have Richardson.

Perhaps they did, I'm just saying I highly doubt it. Purely because I don't believe any club over here can bank with any degree of certainty on even passing 1 round of European Competition. But as you say, stupid things were done at Leeds!

Even if if happened that we finish the year poorly and don't make Europe, it would cost insane amounts of money to sack a manager with 5 years remaining. Besides, 99.99% of fans are right behind him!

And yes, IMO we need to win on Monday to have a chance of making second place. Both Derry and Cork won't carry on these runs, 1 of you will start to slip up, and we really need to win nearly every game to capitalise if such a situation occurs! Of course, as I said, 3rd place is hardly failure.

Also. anyone in Shels would have to be barmy to factor in any form of attendance into the budget! Haha, I remember reading somehwere before that they predict something in the low hundreds at every game and work that into the budget, and anything else is a bonus. That may also be true.

5+ years for a manager is just stupid ..... there is no way any club should sign a guy up for that length of time

the same thing was in the Times yesterday though he did say that if they didn't hit a bad patch city would be very deserving champions.
