Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the first ever live televised European game involving an Irish team to be broadcast on RTE was Derry City Versus Benfica back in the 89/90.

I know its probably being mentioned before but why do they show live matches on friday nights? Why cant the match be changed to a day it doesnt clash with most other EL fixtures like they do for the Premiership. Would make more sense to me

    What night do you suggest?
I'm sure there'll be a good argument against that night.

Also, wasn't the first-ever eL fixture broadcast live on TV staged at the Brandywell in 1997? Derry were certainly involved, they beat Shels (?) 1-0 with a stooping header (Hutton?)
The first time a game other than a Cup Final was featured live on Irish TV was Derry v Benfica from the Brandywell in 1989/90. Benfica then managed by a certain Mr S G Ericsson.

RTE have been to the Brandywell a few other times as well. Just not much in recent years.

I completely agree with Saturday night. Though during the EPL season would it not clash with Premiership highlights?

I think in RTÉ's defence, they've never been scared of travelling to the depth of mucker land and are showing Dundalk-Drogheda this month as well. 'Tis just the other two that need sorting out!

Hasn't been much point up to this year though, has there? I know from the TV crews that certain grounds are preferred due to ease of installation of facilities. For example, the RSC in Waterford is supposedly the easiest ground to film in, now if only we had something there that people would want to watch

It looks terrible on TV though!
Bohs and Pats have the right idea with the cameras looking onto fairly decent stands.

ye should try and bring in halftime beheadings or public stonings for people caught shagging sheep that would be a big crowd puller imo
save the sheep shaggers bring back beheadings for waherford

Steve, leave your keys under the mat. We'll be all heading round your gaff to watch the match while you're away. Don't worry, we won't break anything, valuable.

On the flip side, it would mean the execution of the majority of their existing fans.

I wish I could watch it. I might video it.

We're playing Bohs at home, I'll just tape it and avoid the score.

Thats crazy decision. RTE are clearly trying to derail out title ambitions as we have traditionally been bad on live tv.
