Ryan Lowe (Preston NE) watched Cannon score a late winner v Mansfield in the Papa Johns Trophy match last night. It will be interesting to see whether Cannon is promoted to the first team bench or goes up the road on loan come January.
Liam Higgins? Plays under age for Wales. Anyone know whether he was qualified for us.
Especially a Championship team struggling to put the ball in the back of the net. 18 goals in 21 games so far this season. They're 23rd in the league for goals scored but only two points off Watford in 4th. Fans could well be on his back before a ball is even kicked given they need someone with experience to help keep them in the hunt for a play off spot.
Growing speculation (or websites feeding off each other?) that Cannon could go to Sheffield Wednesday on loan next month. ('The 72' and Football League World, 12 Dec; Yorkshire Live, 13 Dec).
Five goals in five games in the EFL Trophy, against adult opposition, one goal for the senior team in a mini-tournament, seventeen goals before Christmas - has Tom Cannon quietly become one to watch in our search for high quality strikers?
Possibly - I understand that the feeling with Cannon is that he's more physically developed than most young players that come through the academy system, so he should be able to adapt more easily to men's football. He seems to be showing that in his limited opportunities to date.
Hard to get the hopes up too much with a 19 year old who is on the fringes of the first team at a premier league club with just an Irish granny to depend on for that connection. Maybe she makes amazing soda bread.
But sure lookit we'll see.
The rep of Ireland should have used this world cup window to bed in players in a development squad. play against anyone from Latvia to rovers
More options and minutes for the Smallbone and Cannon
I know we would need the agreement of the clubs but why not try it
Better than kenny and Andrews in Qatar imo
Preson NE foiled in their pursuit of Cameron Archer, so turning their attention again to Tom Cannon, according to Deepdale Digest today. Kevin Thelwell, ex-PNE and now Everton Director of Football, quoted as describing Cannon as 'very talented' and having 'an excellent work ethic'. The PNE Chief Scout is ex-Everton midfielder James Wallace, so the right connections are in place. However, Everton are a bit light in the scoring forwards department. Where Cannon spends the rest of the season may depend on where Frank Lampard spends it.
I was wondering if it was him
Let's hope he does well at Preston. But will this mean an Irish player (? Maguire, ?Parrott) moves out?
Maguire has been suggested, hasn't he?
Maguire is rumoured to have been told he can leave but Riis was sent to see a knee specialist so could stick around a bit if Riis is out long term. Will likely be Cannon and Parrott fighting to partner Ched Evans.
Hopefully only on the football pitch...
Maguire would probably be better off dropping down a division or 2 at this stage, hes just making up the numbers in that Preston squad.
Hopefully Parrott and Browne can cement Cannons interest in playing for us, but Im also not gonna stress over if he will or wont. I think the frenzie over Mipo has burned me on caring about lads who are dual until we see if they are even good enough. Even looking at Liam Delap now I not sure Id care about whether we get him or not, where as a year ago it seemed like a big deal.
