Was Troy’s first half effort on target?

Did Troy get a touch on ball for Cannon’s second? BBC gave assist to Onomah.

Great finishes by Cannon, very clinical. Looks good. Great to hear Troy had a good game. Ched Evans is out for foreseeable future so Troy should see plenty of game time for the remainder of season with PNE coming into form at the right time.
Certainly looked to me from the angle in the replay that Troy got a very clever flick onto that ball but could be the green tinted glasses...

Both good finishes from Cannon. Evan Ferguson-esque!

Better quality video here from Preston. Behind the goal camera is pretty clear that Parrott didn't get a touch. Excellent from Cannon though

Give Parrott some credit I think - even if he didn't get a touch, the defenders had an easy job dealing with the pass without Parrott bring there.

But nice composed finish from Cannon, and a header for variety too. On that Dan McDonnell list of our forwards, he's arguably up to number two. Clearly outshining Parrott, scoring goals where Idah, Keane, Hogan and even Robinson aren't, and given Obafemi has started only one game since the end of October and even then wasn't in the form he was last season, Cannon is arguably ahead of him in the pecking order too.

I think since Christmas, he's scored as many as Obafemi, Robinson, Parrott, Idah, Keane and Hogan combined.

It doesn't say much that players as green as Ferguson and Cannon could be our top two strikers at this stage, but our attacking options really have been dire for a number of years now

Nice to see parrots back after so long out with that horrible injury earlier in the year. Can't be easy psychologically rehabilitation from a bad injury that happened when you were celebrating a goal . He is still very young

Parrott’s run after the flick was also very intelligent. Got into a good spot for a square ball or rebound.

Another goal for him today. PNE break down the left, ball is squared to him standing right in the centre circle (by which I mean the penalty spot ), he takes a touch and then fires it well last the keeper. He did well.

Edit: I could have waited a few minutes to post this -

Another chance for Cannon there. Played through on the right with a defender on his shoulder, let’s fly from well outside the box (ball was flying into the right corner of the goal) and the keeper pulls off a fine save to give away the corner.

Parrott has also been really impressive since I’ve been watching (2nd half). Is linking up play really well, making great runs into dangerous areas. He is basically playing the role of creator for Cannon. It’s good to see.

Any dreams the Preston NE Irish contingent had of play-offs and better seem dashed as Swansea led 3-0 at half-time tonight. However Cannon has scored again. Parrott and Brady were on the bench, but Brady was one of 3 subs for Preston NE at the break.

3-2 now as Parrott scores. Swansea possibly about to do a Swansea.

    8 in 10 now I think

Exactly the form Obafemi was called up (and started) for around this time last year

Moves ahead of Ogbene of Irish goal scorers in the championship. Two behind Hogan and three behind Keane.

There's no doubt he's earned a call up now. Given his form he's even jumped ahead of a few for possible start. With Obafemis lack of game time especially concerning. Having Parrott and Idah score tonight too is brilliant. It would be fantastic if we had 3 or 4 in great form heading into summer games and have a genuine selection headache

Keane and Kelly also scored yesterday too don't forget.

Cannon is the only one you can call in form at the moment - one swallow and all that - but we'll take it for now I guess.

If we are ever in a position where Kelly and Keane become important for us we are in trouble!

Obviously I didn't mean Parrott or Idah were in form right now, I just meant that if those goals spark a run of form now to the end of the window it would be great.

Arguably we're in trouble at the moment because Parrott and Idah have been important players for us

Yeah, it'd be great if the goals this week sparked a run of form. But I'd take that from any of the guys concerned (and also Hogan, Obafemi and even Connolly). Beggars can't be choosers!

England U21s are in the Euros this summer, so we may still need to see if Cannon gets his ear bent for that one. There's been no particular indication of it of course and obviously that he played 21s for us last month is positive. But always a possibility until it's not I guess.

I don't think there's any way you can draw that conclusion tbh. Parrott has struggled with adult football so far. He's younger and probably has a much higher ceiling, and it is probably telling that Kelly hasn't gotten many starts. But right now Kelly is a fringe option, and Parrott (and Idah and Keane and Hogan and Connolly) have done little in their careers to date to say they're irreplaceable or a million miles ahead of anyone

Parrott isn’t a 20-goal a season type of striker but admittedly his goals per minute played for PNE is dismal. PNE’s style of play doesn’t suit, but still. That said he has 4 goals in 18 senior appearances which historically is more than a good return for an Irish senior striker.

I like Idah. Like Parrott needs to score more, but he’s good for the team. Probably should have had a couple of goals for us – recall he had a tap-in if McClean squared the ball to him away to Azerbaijan? for example.

Cannon goals for statistics are impressive, but yeah not sure how committed he is to us. We’ll see.

Keane has had his opportunity and isn’t good enough for senior football – obvious to a blind man.

Wouldn’t totally rule out Kelly, but he is playing as an impact sub at 26 years of age and doesn’t have many playing minutes with Rotherham since making the move. Needs to play more at club level before being a consideration. Not there yet and at his age, time is running out.

Bit of a bizarre comment seeing as he has 11 goals for the bottom Championship side this season, and scored 27 for them in a League One promotion run last season? if that's not senior football, I don't know what is. Parrott (who of course has more potential given the career stage he's at) scored 10 at the same level last season for example.

Ultimately though lots of poor options available to us (plus Ferguson, potentially Cannon, and Obafemi if he can prove last spring wasn't a one-off), and I don't think any of them can be said to be a million miles ahead of the other.

We were/are in a position where we rely on young players coming through who probably haven't developed as quickly as we needed considering how poor the options were previously. Both Idah and Parrott still only 21/22. Most international teams wouldn't be so reliant on players that age, let alone an 18 savior that we have now.... but that's not on the players, that's on us, and yet they have done quite well for us to this point. 4 goals for Parrott at 21 years is excellent. Idah has shown in big games that he could be a very important player for us going forward.

Obafemi and Connolly in same boat, both still young and have plenty to offer hopefully.
