    Wexford FC v Avondale

Wexford generally in control in a decent FAI Cup tie against Avondale this evening and eventually ran out comfortable winners by three goals to nil. Wexford started with Charlie, Ethan, Mark, James, Corban, Kian, Reece, Cian, Max, Luke and Thomas. Wexford were on the front foot from the start and Corban Piper had a shot deflected for a corner and Ethan Boyle had a header saved by Sean Barron in the Avondale goal. After ten minutes, Wexford’s Aaron Doran came on for Kian Corbally who looked to have tweaked his back. On 15 minutes, Corban Piper had a goal disallowed for Wexford apparently for a push. Best save of the first half came from Wexford’s Charlie Heffernan when he kept out a one-on-one chance for Avondale’s Nathan Coleman. Avondale’s forwards looked lively enough but the supply was fairly sparse as Wexford controlled possession. However, Wexford’s crossing for the most part wasn’t of the best quality and Barron was rarely troubled in the Avondale goal. After Barron made another good save from the impressive Corban Piper, the game changed right on the 45 minute mark when Barron charged out right to the edge of his area where he was adjudged to have committed a foul on a Wexford attacker. Didn’t have a great view of it but Avondale were not too impressed with the decision. Wexford's Ethan Boyle put Barron the wrong way and Wexford were a goal to the good at halftime.

Wexford probably dominated the second half even more but found it difficult enough to stretch Barron in the Avondale goal. That changed on 18 minutes when Wexford’s Thomas Oluwa did a lot of damage down Wexford’s left and when his cross came in, Wexford’s Aaron Doran was able to smack a left-footed volley past Barron for 2-0 to Wexford. Charlie Heffernan then dived acrobatically to keep an Avondale shot from hitting the net. Subs for Wexford as the half progressed included Eoin Kenny, Luka Lovic making a welcome return to Wexford and then Karl Chambers and Sean Fitzpatrick, After Karl Chambers was unable to finish a good Wexford chance, Eoin Kenny showed that he knows where the goal is when he confidently curled a shot past Sean Barron for 3-0 and final whistle came shortly afterwards. Best for Wexford were Ethan Boyle, Corban Piper while Cian O’Malley and Luke Browne look a strong combination at the back for Wexford leaving Boyle to patrol in front of them. Avondale were best served by Coleman up front and David O’Leary in midfield.
