    Coldplay

I must admit, after 3 albums, Coldplay made a song that I actually like. I think Speed Of Sound it a great song. The song has a catchy melody, Chris' vocals sound quite nice in this song (it suits the melody) and the lyrics are quite good.

Birds fly faster than the speed of sound
To show you how it all began
If you could see it then you'd understand

    sounds nicely poetic somehow.

But that doesn't change the fact that I think Coldplay is very overrated. They're not bad, but I don't get the hype. I mean, Chris Martin sounds a bit boring in some songs (though I give him credit as he is, just like me, an Echo & The Bunnymen fan), and the most chords are re-used in all songs over and over again...

What do you think of Coldplay ? Overrated, or a deserved mass success ?

    , It's actually:

Birds go flying at the speed of sound, to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground, if you could see it then you'd understand.

And yes I agree it is a great song

Every fiber of my body tells me I should hate Coldplay but their music is just too good.

Most bands that sound like Coldplay are garbage but I think they are excellent. Songs like Fix You off the new album or Politk off the last one just sound bigger, more ambitious, and better than most anything else out recently.

I really like them. Most of the slagging they get is from people who like to folow the cynical crowd and go for easy targets, much like the English football team are always built up then berated, or these pretentious 'indy' types, who aren't allowed to like a band if more than 37 people have heard of them.

Musically, they are good. Lyrically, they can get a bit 'how-now-brown-cow', but pretty good on the whole. that is the worst song on the album. 'Square one' is my favourite, a great stadium rock tune. Currently, they are musically miles ahead of U2, and light years ahead of Oasis, who are still living off their 'Definately Maybe' fame.

However, and Coldplay admit this, Radiohead lead the pack. Their new album next year shoul blow any competition out of the water.

I think they're the best band out there at the mo. U2 had their day & were amazing back then. I still get the Radiohead records but have kinda gone off them. Coldplay in Marlay Park there last month was the best I've ever been to & I usually take in 1 or 2 a month. Martin might be a bit of a Geldof when it comes to moaning & all that but you can't argue with the music.

First album was good, since that they've gone through 'The Radiohead Syndrome' in my eyes. Basically they have their heads up their own arses and think people care what they say/think. Altough this is called the Radiohead Syndrome it was pioneered by John Lennon (even though I'm a fan) and perfected by Bono (thankfully I'm not a fan)
