should be a good match this friday. Good to see Barry has found his scoring boots again and with the help of Eric hopefully we will see many more this season. Sligo are on a bad run as of late having lost 3 of the last 4 matches so now is a good time to be meeting them.

Prediction: 2-1 to united with Eric scoring the winner.

Not sure if I'll be getting to it after all cos it looks like the supporters bus mightn't be going,

. Hopefully we'll still have a lot of support down though and I feel that we are going to edge it slightly with maybe 2-1 or 3-2

How would yee fill a bus to Dublin on a thursday evening and not fill one on a Friday to Galway?

I'm asking myself the same question but I'd say it's partly because we have lost our last 2 games in a row(so the "fans"

have lost interest) and Galway isn't as far away as Dublin so a lot of people would drive instead of taking the bus.

With both teams needing maximum points for very different reasons, Friday night's Corribside Cracker in Terryland Park between Galway United & Sligo Rovers should be a fiery affair.

Galway come into the game on a run of five victories in seven games, which has seen them close the gap on the top two while table toppers Sligo have lost three of their last four but still remain top by the slenderest margin from Dermot Keely's Vikings.

Galway's only absentees are David O'Dowd (ankle) and John Russell (leg).

Sligo have Skipper Michael McNamara suspended and Ryan O'Donnell injured.

Patrons are advised to arrive early and use the Dyke Road Carparks as a large crowd is expected.

Having delivered their most accomplished display of the season in Kilkenny, Galway United will be eager to garner a third straight victory against Connacht rivals Sligo Rovers at Terryland Park this evening (kick off 7.30pm).

A superb victory over the Cats has injected the United players with real confidence ahead of the clash with Sean Connor's Sligo. The Bit O Red have outwitted United twice this season, but the recent portents certainly offer Stephen Lally and his improving players some encouragement.

United have gleaned two victories in consecutive games, while Sligo have lost to Dublin City and Dundalk. Sligo will also be forced to play without Mickey McNamara as the imposing centre half was dismissed in the Dundalk disaster.

Sligo suffered a surprise defeat on a night that United sauntered to a facile win over the Eircom League's form team, Kilkenny City.

Despite the recent setbacks Sligo still remain a team loaded with attacking potential. Connor is a shrewd manager and the north westerners feature a string of high calibre players. Former St Jarlath's goalkeeper John O'Hara, Ian Rossiter, Conor O'Grady, Raf Cretaro, Paul McTiernan, Sean Flannery, and Aran Islander Ciaran Foley, are quality performers.

Yet, Stephen Lally will be delighted with the way his players have responded to last Tuesday week's harrowing defeat at Century Homes Park, Monaghan. While the performance was not vintage against Athlone Town, United still grabbed an important victory and Monday's majestic success in the Marble City was particularly pleasing.

The 13 players fortunate enough to be involved all deserve to be commended for a smashing display. Alan Gough was in sparkling form behind a robust defence that was prompted by tigerish skipper Nigel Keady and Billy Clery. Full backs Ronan Frawley and Philip O'Reilly battled vigorously on the flanks denying Kilkenny space out wide.

On United's left flank Derek O'Brien was at his scheming best after the break, earning a penalty with a dashing run. Alan O'Donovan's emergence is another salient feature in a rejuvenated United and the pacy Corofin footballer is a capable player at this level. Juan Rojas' introduction to the Eircom League is a further tribute to the sterling work of junior outfit Galway Hibernians.

Colin Fortune and Mixie Harty governed the midfield with near flawless performances. Fortune was authoritative, while Harty buzzed around the game and was involved in carving out the chance for Barry Moran's sublime opening strike.

Moran's second put the icing on the Galwegian cake and his partnership with the bustling Bajan Eric Lavine is a cause for real optimism. United possess an efficient manager in Lally, and his squad of players can make further progress in the coming weeks. This evenings intriguing Connacht derby will reveal much about the current health of both sides.

Manager refuses to press panic button

SLIGO Rovers manager Sean Connor is refusing to press the panic button despite his side's second defeat on the bounce to Dundalk at the Showgrounds on Monday.
"We are still the best team in the First Division. If we were not playing good football then certainly I would be worried, but I have every confidence in my players," he maintained.

Following their three-one loss to Dublin City at Richmond Park on Thursday, Rovers were out of luck against Dundalk.

"It was just one of those nights. Nothing went for us. I don't think anyone who saw the last two games could argue against the fact that we were the better team on both occasions.

"We were decidedly unfortunate against Dundalk and it was frustrating. We are going through something of a mid-season blip, but I won't panic. It is now time for me to step up to the plate and protect my players. I believe in them and I know we can get through this.

"As the manager, it is my responsibility to get us back on track and I have no doubt but that we will do that. It has been relatively easy up to now, because the players have been fantastic," Connor added.

Next up for his charges is a clash against Galway United at Terryland Park on Friday night.

"There would be no better game to get us back to winning ways. It is a Connacht derby and my players will be up for it.

"I am looking forward to it and we are well capable of going there and getting a result," the manager said.

*Meanwhile, Rovers travel to Windor Park, Belfast, on Saturday next to take on Linfield in a friendly. (Kick-off 3.00pm).

"We will use players like Tim McCann, Conall Murtagh and Carlos Alvarez. It is an opportunity to have a look at a few things and it should be a good work out," Connor added.
