    WYW v Treaty

Wexford consolidated their position at the top of the table in Ferrycarrig this evening with a reasonably routine victory, but Treaty may be a little disappointed that they coughed up two soft goals just before the break to undo their hard work up till then. Wexford started with Maeve, Nicola, Lolly, Della, Edel, Aoibheann, Becky, Rossi, Kylie, Ellen and Jess. From the start, it was Wexford who dominated possession and they had the benefit of a brilliant early goal from Edel Kennedy with a peach of a volley from outside the area on five minutes to put the home side a goal ahead. Wexford continued to dominate from then until half-time but as Treaty remained more and more compact, the more difficult it became for Wexford to break them down. Various Wexford players went close to adding to the lead as this half progressed but without any success. A worry for Wexford as they enter the decisive part of the season was Ellen Molloy hobbling off after twenty minutes to be replaced by an impressive Michaela Lawrence. Just as Treaty looked like getting to half-time only a goal down, they almost unforgivably left Kylie Murphy with a free header from a Wexford corner with three minutes to go to the break to put Wexford two goals to the good. It got worse for Treaty a minute later when slackness at the back by Treaty enabled Ciara Rossiter to drill a low shot past Trish Fennelly in the Treaty goal for 3-0 to Wexford at half-time.

Second half continued in more or less the same vein with Treaty working hard and Wexford not really precise enough in the final third to add to their tally. In fact, Fennelly in the Treaty goal didn’t really have a save to make in the second half as Wexford failed to press home their advantage. At the other end, Maeve Williams also had little or nothing to do in the Wexford goal before she was replaced late on by Claudia Keenan. Other Wexford subs in this half were Meabh Russell, Freya De Mange and Aine Walsh. Best for Wexford were probably Edel Kennedy, with Becky Watkins looking better the more centrally she plays while Michaela Lawrence caught the eye with her tidy use of the ball. For Treaty, Alex Mendez and Grace McInerney impressed down Treaty’s right while Trish Fennelly did nothing wrong between the posts for Treaty. 3-0 to Wexford at full-time.
