I'll take the Italian "connection" though although the way things are going for Gordon Strachan, you know...................
Don't think you have to own a property or even live or work in the county..
But you do have to have some connection to the county.. You grew up there or played club there, parents are from there etc.. Out of Loyality most players usually stick to their own counties..
Plenty of the young fellas on the Galway team don't own any property and I used to work with a Laois hurling and Football county player and he Lived and worked in Galway yet played for Laois!!

Irish through and through.. could only and would only play for Ireland..
In GAA would only play for Galway
