With a bit of luck Ronan not named today means he's working on a move away.

Just the one goalscorer today , by my reckoning, but it's a new forward to start speculating about - Dara McGuinness, recently arrived from Shamrock Rovers, scored the opener for Stoke against Calum Kavanagh's Middlesbrough, but Boro responded with four. David Okagbue also played for Stoke: https://www.stokecityfc.com/news/202...r-boro-defeat/

Elsewhere, two crosses from Ollie O'Neill led to Fulham's goal against Man Utd: https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2022/a...-2-Fulham-U21/

Aaron Maguire was between the sticks for Spurs against Liverpool - shipped three goals in the second half, though: https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/new...verpool-clash/

O'Neill has had a good start to the season and was disappointing to see him not get minutes in the cup with Fulhams lack of wingers and first choice wingers out injured.

Don't think so. Probably on tour of Europe training with clubs with lockdown restrictions lifted around Europe. Think that's the main reason he went back playing with Stoke.

Good win for Lawal and Vata against the local pub team yesterday.

This video should act as a strong deterrent to any young Irish players considering Celtic as a career move. Awful standard. Soul destroying watching Bosun Lawal still stuck here this season, he’s an absolute unit compared to the rest of them. Vata is only 17, 18 early next year, while younger he also needs to move on now to a higher standard if he harbors aspirations of making it at a good level. Time for loans all round!

If the Scottish club teams permitted Celtic B of getting promoted to league 2 and upwards, it may actually start working out for Celtic. This can’t be doing much for their players development

Don't think clubs in the lower leagues want Celtic B or any B team allowed into the leagues but especially Celtic and Rangers.

See clubs in the PL have met and have talked about a quota for U23s players that EFL teams would have to include in their match day squads I think when talking about new rules regarding loans. Obviously the money within the Premier League they've talked about improving the parachute payments and funds for 3rd and 4th tier clubs to improve infrastructure.

Bosun Lawal doesn’t look in any way mobile enough to make it as a professional footballer at a high level ~ ~ Time will tell if I am wrong.

Watching that video he reminds me of the lad that's bigger than everyone else in school boy football at U12 but by the team he gets to U16 everyone else has grown and can now match him physically and are better technically while he has coasted by the last couple of years because he was bigger than others. Hopefully he gets a loan to a higher division to see how he takes to senior football. Playing in that pub level isn't gonna do him any good.

Andy Lyons signing for Blackpool and will remain with Rovers until the end of the season. Having a great season at WB scoring 8 goals and 6 assists. Ferizaj assisted him this weekend with lovely long range pass in extra time to beat Drogheda in the cup.

I see Joe Hodge did well again tonight and scored 2 vs Shrewsbury. Any news of a loan deal ahead of sept 1 deadline? Needs senior football, 20 in 2 weeks

Doubt he'll be going anywhere. Wolves have their four senior lads in Neves, Moutinho, Dendoncker, and Nunes but have sent Cundle on loan and Ronan looks like he might be off. Hodge could well be 5/6th in the pecking order.

Sitting on the bench periodically and playing some league cup game or two won’t do much for his development

Tom Cannon was also on the scoresheet for Everton U21s against Morecambe: https://www.evertonfc.com/news/27702...r-at-morecambe

Quick note - when I started this thread I called it the U23 players' thread, as per previous seasons, but it appears there has been some change and the PDL is now for U21 teams - should the thread title be changed?

And Wolves aren't going to loan him out if they feel it could leave them short for numbers in midfield during the season.

    Thanks Tets.

Remember a couple of years ago when a few of our young strikers scored hat-tricks within a short time? Well that seems to be happening again. After Evan Ferguson netted three for Brighton's U21s recently, Sinclair Armstrong followed suit in QPR's 5-3 win over Cardiff tonight: https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/under-21s...-3-qpr-u21s-5/

Also, Dara Costelloe reacted well to being dropped from the first team by scoring for Burnley's U21s on Sheffield Wednesday on Monday: https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/...ay-1-4-burnley

And Babajide Adeeko scored for Wigan against Birmingham: https://wiganathletic.com/news/2022/...ty-1-latics-4/

Crikey, it's been nearly a month since I updated here - I'll have to go back to previous weeks' action (I know there was an international break in the meantime) - anyway, there were a bunch of goals scored by Irish players last weekend:

Keeping the run of hat-tricks going, Ollie O'Neill scored three times as Fulham hammered Leicester 7-0 - that's six for the season: https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2022/o...-7-Fulham-U21/

Evan Ferguson scored one (that's eight in his last eleven games for club and country) and was credited with an assist, while Andrew Moran had a goal disallowed as Brighton drew 3-3 with Man United: https://www.brightonandhovealbion.co...hester-united/

Killian Phillips and Tom Cannon were both on target in the game between Crystal Palace and Everton - that's six in nine games for Cannon this season and three for Phillips: https://www.evertonfc.com/match/7945...ton-u21#report

Luke Pearce scored his second of the season, as Southampton beat Aston Villa 2-0: https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2...ague-2-2022-23

Calum Kavanagh scored a late consolation in Middlesbrough's defeat to West Brom: https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/2022/octo...5-boro-u21s-2/
