    Wexford FC v Cork

Very decent effort from the home side but ultimately they came up short against Cork who got the early goal and then mostly dug in until the end to get the three points. With Jack Doherty still injured, Wexford started with Alex, Paul, Joe, Luka, Conor C, Conor B, Dobbsy, Thomas, Len, Harry and Eoin Farrell. First decent effort on goal came after five minutes and produced the only goal of the game as Josh Honohan rose in the middle of a group of players inside the Wexford area to head past Alex Moody in the Wexford goal. After 11 minutes, Cork had another free header but this time it was straight at Alex Moody. On 14 minutes, Wexford forced two corners after the second of which there was almost a melee on the Cork goal-line, but eventually Harrington in the Cork goal was able to drop on the ball. With Cork almost routinely going long, and Wexford playing the ball about well until the final third, it was a couple of Wexford efforts from outside the box which didn’t threaten the Cork goal and a header from Dobbsy which went straight to Harrington which were the nearest which Wexford came to getting the equaliser. 1-0 to Cork at half-time.

Wexford brought on Aidan Friel for Harry Groome at the start of the second half and the home side continued to make most of the running. On 12 minutes, Cork had a good effort when an attempt was made to lob Alex Moody in the Wexford goal, but he’s a big lad and managed to stretch and grab it. With seventeen minutes gone, Ger Shortt and Adam Wells came on for Wexford and both played really well down Wexford’s left. Nearest Wexford came to equalising was on 28 minutes when Dobbsy had a flick close in which Harrington managed to turn over his own cross-bar. With a few minutes to go, Alex Moody dived low to his left to push away a Cork effort on goal. Dinny Corcoran came on late as a sub for Wexford and Eoin Farrell chucked a few long throws into the Cork area, but generally a stout Cork defence stood firm and Cork collected the three points after a very close game. Best for Wexford were Dobbsy, Eoin Farrell, Joe Manley, Conor Crowley and Luka Lovic with Adam and Ger doing well also when they came on. Believe 616 was the attendance although I thought there looked to be more.
