    Team of the (Half) Season

Since it seems to be a long enough break to the next set of games, just wondering what would be the best 11 at the half-way point of the season, and who is generally seen as performing highest.

    (*Cavets should apply)

    GK: Nathan Sheppard (Dundalk)

    DR: Andy Lyons (Rovers)
    DL: Darragh Leahy (Dundalk)
    DC: Mark Connolly (Dundalk)
    DC: Pico Lopes (Rovers)

    MC: Will Patching (Derry)
    MC: Jack Byrne (Rovers)
    MC: Danny Mandriou (Rovers)

    RW: Darragh Burns (St. Pats)
    LW: Jamie McGonigle (Derry)
    ST: Pat Hoban (Dundalk)

Darragh Leahy in a team of the season so far is a bit of a stretch considering he’s only played 11 games and was roasted alive by Darragh Burns in two of those 11.

Andy Lyons (although naturally a RB) should be in there at LB where he’s done very well for rovers this season, with Ronan Boyce at RB.

Throwing in my clubs bias, Joe Redmond from Pats and Joseph Anang have to be with a shout for this too given they’re in a defence that’s kept the most clean sheets in the league so far with 9. Redmond in particular is pats player of the season so far

Attempt at a First Division team:

    David Harrington (Cork)

    Alex Murphy (Galway)
    Ally Gilchrist (Cork)
    Marc Ludden (Treaty)
    Kevin O'Connor (Cork)

    Conor McCormack (Galway)
    Matt Healy (Cork)
    Jack Doherty (Wexford)

    Phoenix Patterson (Waterford)
    Stephen Walsh (Galway)
    Junior Quitirna (Waterford)

Possibly a few too many left-footed players in defence, but Jonas Hakkinen (Cork) has also impressed.

He has been very solid. I wouldnt have Burns anywhere near the reckoning on overall form. He has show flashes of brilliance but like the majority of the squad he hasn’t shown consistency.

Amazing, ye could have done with him in goal last year! You had one of the worst I've ever seen to one of the best!

Leahy was nowhere near the pace away to Derry, his mistake that gave up the goal, plus he wasn't great the following Monday away to FH either. Mark Connolly absolutely, Hoban in with a good shout, not sure any other of our lads warrant this, Bradley did win POTM for Feb, but off the boil a little since, Kelly should be in the running for May POTM, but he left it too late to spark, still good he has !

I'd go with 4-3-3, too many good forwards to leave out!

    GK: Nathan Sheppard (Dundalk)

    RB: Andy Lyons (Rovers)
    CB: Mark Connolly (Dundalk)
    CB: Pico Lopes (Rovers)
    LB: Darragh Leahy (Dundalk)

    CM: Will Patching (Derry)
    CM: Jack Byrne (Rovers)
    CM: Danny Mandriou (Rovers)

    RF: Graham Burke (Rovers)
    ST: Rory Gaffney (Rovers)
    LF: Jamie McGonigle (Derry)

The only Harps player anywhere near the team would be Conor Tourish...He's a fantastic defender and our main scoring threat most matches

Abibi was the worst GK to ever grace LOI PD in my view, yet he played 6 games in Europe, almost unbelievable, plus its the one blot for me on Perths copybook when he came back. Yes he did a good job getting us up to 6th and 2 weeks to go long shot for europe, but took him well over a month to drop him. Then when he did the results changed.

A FD club wouldn't have touched him, abs convinced he never played pro football as a GK before.

abibi was horrific alright. cherrie was a disaster too though. dont think perth is upto much as a coach but he was caught like a rock in a hard place with that decision. cherrie had a few clangers himself iirc. either way the recruitment of abibi was about as baffling as loi transfers go.

Interesting to see Abibi doesn't seem to have found a new club since (going off soccerway anyway, which is usually excellent)

I have a screengrab somewhere during the time no fans in at games, Abibi in goal, LOITV, town end at Oriel Park, he is on the shed side of the post of his goal (its unguarded) while the opposition were attacking putting a cross between the goal and the touchline. It was like a horror show meets a bad dream, players used to just walk off and ignore him.

FF to this season, likes of Hoban runs back to young Shepard and makes a big deal of letting him know how valuable he is.
