Of course here's your Doomsday scenario, we beat you and go on to win the League Cup and Longford make it 3 in a row. It is decided to give the Setanta spot to the LC and you end up out of Setanta and out of Europe.

We could still qualify for Europe by winning the Champions League!

I think the Inter Toto Cup was good for City in 2004 as we'd been out of Europe for a few years. Gives the players experience & confidence playing in Europe. Once you've done it then no real urgency to go back.

The Inter Toto would be good for Drogs next season or Derry City if they have a collapse.

But isn't this the last year of the Inter-Toto?

This competition will not exist next year.....?

I'd probably agree with that, although at the moment looks like we'll be lucky to get intertoto!!!

Will there be extra UEFA spaces then, or is it just dead and buried?

Say Cork and Derry make the final of the FAI cup, will the final UEFA spot be given to 3rd in the league then?

Yes, thats what I meant. Say the top 2 in the league make it to the FAI Cup final, 3rd place in the league gets UEFA spot then? I'll be rooting for Derry and Cork int he cup so, and praying they don't get each other on the way!!

I wouldn't rule Derry out yet by any means. They're only 7 behind if they win their game in hand and still have to play Cork twice.

We're only four behind if we win our game in hand. Injuries and a small squad starting to tell at this stage though. We are missing three right backs, two central midfielders, a striker and a left back from the squad for Friday
Tifo poles, sausage rolls and a few goals.

The important thing is how many are first teamers.

Shels fans have been moaning about missing players who they wouyldn't have been able to play anyway unless the eL allows them field more than 11 at a time.

That's what I meant, changed my mind from saying "7 behind with a game in hand" and didn't change it properly. Or maybe wishful thinking from Friday.

so if Shels don't make it into Europe how many of their players will be left go or will they be able to hold them together for another season at least?

    cork/derry

If you think shels are out of this race you are seriously underestimating them
Cork were written off last season at roughly the same stage and brought it to the last day of the season. Eleven points seems alot and should be enough but nothing would play into Shels hands more than to write them off. They have the players to do it and its amazing how when you lose 1 or 2 games the other teams in the league smell your uncertainty and play above themselves turning a procession into a dogfight!Be warned!

We were written off at this stage last season, but in fairness, we had games in hand as well, which Shels don't. Thats the difference IMO

Eddie McCallion has been a fixture, his direct replacement Damien Brennan is out and U-19 international Kevin Deery is out- all of them have played in the first team- McCallion and Deery a big loss

Hargan is our only recognised left back- he's out

Eamon Doherty was captain last year he's out, Ruairi Higgins has started around 50% of the games thus far.

O'Flynn is probably the only one who wouldn't be an automatic first choice
