    WYW v Shelbourne

Deserved win by Shels in Ferrycarrig tonight which, in all honesty, could have been more than the 2-0 scoreline but for some excellent work by the Wexford back four and Maeve Williams in goal. Wexford started with Maeve, Della, Nicola, Meabh, Lolly, Aoibheann, Ellen, Teegan, Becky, Kylie and Rossi. Wexford had a reasonable attack in the first minute or two but found it hard to create anything of note for the remainder of the half with Shels looking much more energetic and winning most of the 50-50s. On five minutes, Shels broke down the right and the cross was finished by a Shels attacker to the net. With Shels on top in the game, the excellent Stapleton had a volley just wide of the Wexford goal, and it was 22 minutes before Wexford had even a decent effort on goal, with Aoibheann Clancy hitting a shot a couple of yards wide. Maeve Williams in the Wexford goal then did really well to save a one-on-one with Keeva Keenan of Shels at the expense of a corner. On 32 minutes, Keenan was adjudged to have scored Shels second with one of those shots which comes off the bottom of the crossbar and bounced and came out. Not sure who gave it but 2-0 to Shels. Wexford improved after this and won a couple of corners and had a shout for a peno, but nothing was given. The serene Shels defence dealt capably with all Wexford set-pieces. 2-0 to Shels at half-time.

Wexford definitely upped a gear at the start of the second half but still couldn’t make any dent in the strong Shels defence. Maeve Williams made another decent save to keep the score at 2-0 while Amanda Budden in the Shels goal continued to have only a few routine catches to make. Emma Donohoe came on midway through the half for Wexford’s Teegan Lynch. A couple of yellow cards were flashed towards the end of the game but the three points were safely in Shels pocket from a long way out. As mentioned, best for Wexford were the back five of Maeve, Meabh, Nicola, Lolly and particularly Della. For Shels, Saoirse Noonan, Jess Stapleton, Jess Ziu and Rachel Graham stood out. 2-0 to Shels at full-time.
