    WYW v Cork

Not for the first time, an Ellen and Kylie show on the scoreboard as Wexford secured a comfortable three points against Cork. Wexford started with Kiev, Nicola, Della, Lolly, Aoibheann, Meabh, Kylie, Teegan, Ellen, Becky and Rossi. Cork are a decent side but they probably concede too easily. From Cork’s first short passing movement out from their keeper in the first minute, Wexford’s Ellen Molloy was unlucky not to score. From their second, the ball quickly fell to Ellen once again, and this time she made no mistake and it was 1-0 to Wexford after three minutes. A high defensive line also proved to be Cork’s undoing on 14 minutes as Ellen Molloy was fed with a through ball, and Ellen rounded Abby McCarthy in the Cork goal for Wexford’s second. The third Wexford goal on nineteen minutes was a real beauty as some slick passing allowed Ellen to hit a looping half-volley with her weaker right foot to the top right-hand corner for her hat-trick and with Wexford now three goals ahead. Cork definitely came into the game after that with the excellent Becky Cassin to the fore and Becky got a goal back for Cork with a good close-in header to meet a cross from the right. The large gap between the Cork defensive line and their keeper enabled Wexford to get a fourth goal just before the break, as a through-ball enabled Kylie Murphy to round the Cork keeper and it was 4-1. It remained 4-1 at the break.

The second half was a bit more scrappy as both sides found it hard to create chances. Ellen Molloy had a good chip over the Cork keeper which drifted just wide and Becky Watkins, who looks much more comfortable playing through the middle, created a number of chances for herself but couldn’t finish any. The fifth goal came for Wexford through Kylie Murphy who was allowed a free header by the Cork defence from a corner. Subs for Wexford during this half included Emma W, Emma D, Maeve, Freya DeM, and Siun. In addition to Becky Cassin, Lauren Singleton also looked handy for Cork. 5-1 to Wexford at full-time.
