No not really. Alot of people did pull together cos they had no choice. But there will always be people who will exploit others in times of need. Hotels put their prices up, Bike shops made a fortune cos people were desperate to get out of the city, and worst of all, I bet the pick pockets had a field day These are the minority, most people rallied round and did what had to be done to get on. Saw it yesterday. Walked from Oxford Circus to Angel cos you just couldnt get on a bus. No one was complaining or fighting all very calm, just getting on with walking home.

Paul, I don't think I've ever seen anyone jump to quite as many conclusions as you. One minute you're a hero that could have tackled a bomber single-handledly, even though you have absolutely no idea what kind of effort those three people went to do the same thing; the next you're investigating fraud on the Internet and discovering that the operators of werenotafraid.com are cynical opportunists out to take advantage of gullible fools that are really probably quite frightened by the London bombings, despite the intention of the site.

It's like you have this superhuman power to not even need to think before posting. I've never seen you do so anyway, although I've seen you have to retract statements and even apologise many times because you're in such a rush to appear butch and/or holier than thou. Maybe you could start trying that, having a wee think before you hit the repy button? At the very least, there's a good chance you'd stop p*ssing me off.

For the record, it's quite possible you could be right, but a quick search of the web reveals that the guy responsible is saying that funds will go towards the running of the site (which, believe me, will be expensive), with the balance going to the Red Cross London Bomb Relief Fund.

There you go, we call that "research". It took me a couple minutes. You should try it some time.

conor i agree with ye on that in some parts. but at least its not as bad as the aul yanks, but you can see a bit of that coming over.

its the papers that are sensationalising it, most people dont give two monkeys and are just going about their daily lives. so dont get lost in sight thinking its the ordinary people living in london.

I don't think many of us are under any illusions on that score Conor. We're just trying to go about our ordinary lives in peace, much as they are in Baghdad. But thanks for your compassion all the same.

Yes, that's right, you may be. It's all about perceptions though, innit? I live here, and whilst I might agree with your underlying point (whatever it may be - anything from media saturation to cultural imperialism, no doubt - I don't really care at the moment) you put it in such a way as to come across as a mealy-mouthed smug "I'm-all-right-Jack". And that's hardly the way to offer support, is it? It may not have occurred to you, but you engage with people who live in London, on here if nowhere else. Try a little empathy. We're scared just now and comments like yours really don't help.

I am as it happens. But life does go on. So in that respect I'll not stop doing what I'd ordinarily do in the everyday, but it certainly doesn't stop me being afraid for myself, friends and loved ones and for the future.

My compassion drained after about 2 weeks of the bleeding hearts syndrome and news about London's horror 24/7. Life goes on. If it was a train crash or something, we'd have forgotten it the day after. Of course, I accept that events of yesterday and today are newsworthy and are going to see the matter brought up again. I accept that, because London is far closer to Ireland with far more Irish people, the events will naturally take up more soundbites than a similar event on the other side of the world. But 56 dead in a city of 10 million? I might be taking higher risks driving to work on Irish roads...

Any respect i ever had for you has just dissolved in your past two posts. The words 'fúcking idiot' spring to mind. This is terrorism. I know a lad in my school, lost his dad. Do you think he feels like a fúcking hero? I found out that someone i hold dear was nearly involved. I can tell you now that i didn't feel like a hero at all. It still panics me just to think of it. We didn't ask for this, and certainly are not gladdened by it.

Your response beggars belief. Any life lost is tragic, to compare numbers and statistics is ridiculous. I'd request that you keep your mouth shut before you do any more damage.

The context in which i said that was different. KB was a man who went over to a dangerous country, aware of the dangers, yet was treated as a hero. These victims were leading normal lives, not working for extensive profit in Iraq.

I'm not gonna argue this with you mate, you're wrong. You don't live in London. Myself, PP and many others do. This is not something made up by the media. London has become more unified. Liam88 has expressed this in another thread. Once you've lived here for a while, in the current climate, I'll listen.
