Wexford never really matched the physicality or tempo of the away side in Ferrycarrig tonight as the away side took the three points comfortably. Wexford started with Hunty, Frieler, Paul C, Joe, Conor B, Conor D, Aaron, Dinny, Adam, Harry and Lorcan. The damage was done in the first half and started as early as the second minute. A training ground routine from a Longford corner left Barnett in too much space and his low shot found the net to put Longford ahead. Longford nearly went two ahead shortly afterwards with a free header at the far post but it was put wide of the Wexford post. First effort by Wexford on the Longford goal came on 13 minutes when Aaron Dobbs had a volley wide, but Longford increased their lead on 18 minutes when Graydon chipped Hunt in the Wexford goal for 2-0. Game then dipped in standard until half-time with Wexford finding it hard to put any pressure on Dennison in the Longford goal and playing much more direct than usual. 2-0 to Longford at half-time.
Second-half continued in its scrappy nature which suited Longford more than Wexford. Wexford made a triple substitution with Thomas Considine, Jack Doherty and Conor Crowley coming on and it improved Wexford’s play somewhat as there was now more control of the ball in their opponent’s half. Dinny Corcoran looked to have a great chance to get a goal back for Wexford but probably had to stretch too far and couldn’t keep it on target. Immediately, the ball went the other end of the pitch where Robinson had a controlled strike to beat Hunt in the Wexford goal for 3-0 to Longford. Wexford probably need to get the ball down more and the return of JD may help. Best for Wexford on a difficult night were Lorcan, Aaron and Paul Cleary.
