Didn't know he qualified through his grandfather
Capped at both U19 and U21 level for Ireland, Ferry represents the country of his paternal grandfather and is relishing the chance to play international football. “I feel a proper connection when I play, I’m a passionate player anyway but when I’m with Ireland I just want to give that bit extra.”
Not a player that ever gets much of a mention in terms of a possible call up, but he's having a good season in Scotland with Dundee United and plays in a problem position for us. You have to take his performances in the context of the standard of the league he's playing in (shíte), but at the same time he's regarded as his team's best player this season and they're going really well in the league.
There's likely scope for at least one new left back to get a call up at some point this year and he might be next in line after Brady, O'Dowda and Manning. He might just not quite be good enough but we're struggling enough in the position that he's in contention at least. Obviously if Cirkin came in that would change things a lot. Roughan seems to be playing more at centre back for his club these days, but he's too short to ever be a realistic centre back option for us.
