    Wexford FC v Treaty

Stuffing for Wexford on the scoreboard in Ferrycarrig tonight as a very effective Treaty side scored more or less every time they got the ball in the Wexford area. In contrast, Wexford played reasonably well going forward but couldn’t convert any of the many chances they created other than directly from a corner. Wexford started with Hunt, Cleary, Crowley, Davis, Dobbs, Considine, Corcoran, Byrne, Groome, Friel and Fitzgerald. An important injured absentee was Jack Doherty. Although Treaty had an early shot a couple of yards wide, it was Wexford who impressed during the first twenty minutes or so as they pushed the ball around well but didn’t really stretch Brady in the Treaty goal. But Treaty scored with their first good attack of the game on 18 minutes when a cross from the right by Treaty was flicked on at the near post to leave a Treaty forward to head home at the far post. 1-0 to Treaty. Aaron Dobbs then had a header tipped over by Brady for a corner and Conor Davis also went close for Wexford. Wexford then conceded a calamitous second goal when two players went for the same ball following a free kick by Treaty to leave the Treaty forward to knock it into the empty Wexford goal. With half-time beckoning, Wexford got a goal back when the ball appeared to go in directly from a Wexford corner. 2-1 at half-time and Wexford still in the game.

With three minutes gone in the second half, Wexford had a great chance to level, but Friel lifted over from ten yards. Immediately, Treaty went down the other end of the pitch where a peno was conceded by the Wexford defence, and it was 3-1. More poor Wexford defence followed when a cross from the right was turned in by Treaty for 4-1 and a free header from a Treaty free-kick made it 5-1. Wexford continued to create chances but two good opportunities for Wexford from volleys inside the Treaty penalty area were again hit over the Treaty bar to leave the score at 5-1 at full-time. The contrast between a very generous Wexford defence and a very tight Treaty rearguard couldn’t have been more stark with the Wexford three man defence looking very exposed particularly down the flanks. Best for Wexford on the day were Dobbs, Davis and Considine. Approx. 400 at the game.
