Most of the recent international match weekends saw some league fixtures postponed due to international callups (including U21 callups for Ireland and NI). So it kind of makes sense to me.
In a change to the usual schedule, the league will now stop during the international windows in March and September, with the mid-season break also coinciding with the June window.
The game on the 26th is at home on a Saturday. Nne of the ten Premier Division clubs schedule their home fixtures on a Friday night, so would have had no impact whatsoever on their supporters attending a game in Dublin at 5pm the next day.
It's also worth noting that the First Division has a full schedule of games that weekend. Presumably their fans don't want to attend or watch Ireland matches
Well I wouldn't skip a First Division game to watch Ireland so maybe that is a factor.
