A Boca and Ireland fan from Argentina just spent five weeks here in Ireland to see the Boys in Green play against Israel.

I'm sure he would be more than willing to guide you through Buenos Aires and to La Bombonera.

Seen as your going to the Bonbonera make SURE your supporting Boca.Try not to go to where the ultras are North/South stand therefor get a good ticket one of the more expensive ones.Dont try and show off with your flashy Nike boca jersey try the fake(bamba) jerseys.

Would you not stop off in the ultimate country in the World Peru seen as your going to South America.Great oportunity.

Lads am looking to go to the Boca - River match in April. I here this is the more difficult fixture to get tickets for (River - Boca is supposed to be easier)... any tips on how I might get a ticket would be greatly appreciated... thanks.

A Pats fan went last year and bought his off a tout for about 20 quid outside (Stand). His mate got a terrace ticket for about 8 quid. said there were literally 100s of ticket touts

good travel advice. i was in rio during the WC wearing my official brasil chemisa when i was accosted by about eight eight year olds who surrounded me like homer to a donut, but, heroically, i was able to run down a hill taking advantage of my longer legs and away from the scavengers. in general the jersey was a good idea as most people smiled etc but i would rather wear a fake one, which would have the same diplomatic benefits.

    from the website ..........http://www.rockspringssports.com/spo..._history.shtml
    or try...........
    http://www.wayso.net/soccer_history.htm

also bear in mind that their is a small irish community in argentina that stretches back yonks..............
i, myself, remember reading in world soccer years ago, how an O Brien replaced a Mccarthy (or someother irish name) in an argentina league game and it was commented that it was the first time that players with irish blood and argentina born and bred had done this
and then there is their navy...........

why the reluctance to accept it!

biography of said patrick mccarthy http://www.irlandeses.org/dilab_mccarthyp1.htm

it makes no mention of him founding boca, and in fairness is pretty detailed. the official sitehttp://www.bocajuniors.com.ar/englis...b_historia.php says that it was five young italian immigrants that founded the club. from that its pretty clear mccarthy didnt establish the club

but what confuses me a little is that it also says that 'juniors' was added for an english tone to give the club prestige. how would young italian boys have thought of this? also, curiously, mccarthy was from tipp, who of course wear blue and yellow like boca. apparently boca got their colours from the swedish flag, which again seems a little odd to me. mccarthy probably had some influence alright but surely the official club history is more authoritive than the soccer history sites above. i think there is enough of a link to support boca over river in el superclasico anyway edmundo!

i'm kicking myself i wasnt armed with this knowledge before going there to get to the root of the issue

as an aside, there are believed to be between 300k - 500k irish descendants living in argentina. which is even more impressive considering that a lot of the more influential irish were priests and nuns!! also, when i was there a good few people mentioned how st.patricks day was a very big day, with parade, party etc.
