Either way the impact is shocking on all sorts of levels and this RTE piece is probably tip of the iceberg. https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/1108/12...fashion-chile/

Especially when you consider that, whilst 'ordinary' clothes often involve a mixture and range of natural and man-made material, football shirts are pretty much entirely synthetic these days. Mostly made out of polyester, which doesn't decompose naturally, is resistant to sunlight degradation, & takes about 200 years to break down. So those 3 football shirts a year being pumped out by clubs will have a combined lifespan of 600yrs. They're just chemicals in textile form.

A cotton t-shirt or a pair of jeans will biodegrade naturally (even though they will have been treated with chemicals at some point). A synthetic football shirt will out-live even your great-great-great-great-grandchildren.

    Nice kit from Dundalk anyway.

what’s the fascination with Bob Marley in Dalymount. Not a fan of gimmick jerseys. It should sell well though.

Strange that they released the exact same jersey as 3 years ago. Would’ve thought once they got the image rights they’d go with a new design also. I’m not sure many that bought the original one with the fist icon on it will buy the same jersey again with the only difference being the Bob Marley image replacing the other one

Wouldn’t be into it all. Don’t get what Bob Marley has to do with Bohemians football club. I like Bob Marley but don’t see the connection. If it was Luke Kelly I could understand it a bit more.

He played a gig in Dalymount once so they're celebrating their history.

I agree it is over the top a bit, but there is a connection there.

I wonder how the members of Mungo Jerry would look on a shirt.

It'll make them money and unprecedented jersey sales for a LOI club.

I can be very critical at times of Bohs desperate “look at us” type antics - playing to the crowd l and they have massivley over cooked it recently.

Have to give credit for this though, there is a genuine if small connection there that feeds into a good narrative for the jersey and is already getting serious attention so in turn will sell numbers never seen before in the league.

    So fair play to them.

Irish football team Bohemians share new Bob Marley-themed kit (nme.com)

This article mentions the gig in Dalymount in 1980.

Thank god with didn't lose the final to them. Imagine how bad it would've gotten.

He who laughs last and all that. At least now some of the 'marketing worth' of the gimmick might see some tangible return now.

Unfortunately the sponsor doesn't work nearly as well this time - Des Kelly interiors.

The original release a few years back had Mr Green as the sponsor, which was just perfect. It should still sell well but it's a major pity they've changed sponsor in the meantime.

Fair play to Bohs on this one. They could've walked away with their tail between their legs after the Marley shirt farce a couple of years back, but instead they hung in there and found a way to make it happen. People will mock them, but this is a the kind of drive and ambition we almost never see in Irish football (even if it is 'only' for a shirt).

They will sell bucket loads of this shirt. An Ajax third shirt with much less overt Marley links (i.e. just the rasta colours and images of 'three little birds' on the collar) has been selling like hot cakes and is almost impossible to get in adult sizes (Ajax 3rd (European) kit 2021-2022 | Official Ajax Fanshop ).

They should go the whole hog now and have a full range of training gear etc in the colours, as Ajax did. This will all sell more than even the famous Dublin City jerseys

Not specific to Bohs, how much profit would a club make on a €60 jersey?

Would presumably differ by manufacturer and deal. But I'd surprised if they saw more than 15-20%. Could even be as low as 10% at a guess.

The real profit margin is of course made by whoever sells them. Presumably up to 50% of sale price goes to the retailer ?
