It has to be said, the mentality of every LOI except Rovers is absolutely dire at the moment and these farcical performances in Europe are evidence of that. Derry should have been 2 nil up after 10 mins and putting the opposition under serious pressure at home, 1chance the other end and its game over. As for sligo losing to a pub team...

I make no apologies for disparaging dundalk at every opportunity but put hoban in on those derry chances and he'd have the mentality to finish. They have guys in their ranks at dundalk who believe themselves equal of the European opposition they would face, in stark contrast to the derry & sligo lads it seems...

Fenlon, on a recent podcast, said the league is poor because the teams below Rovers (except dundalk presumably) are just happy finishing in the European places but show no mentality to go and win the league. These european performances tonight's back that up, in my opinion. Hopefully sligo can get their head out of their hole for long enough to put away the Welsh dog and duck 11.

Hoban's European record is awful (5 in 23), so I wouldn't bank on him, but there's a definite point in there alright. I think it's partly that it's a transition period where Cork/Dundalk aren't a patch on what they were, Derry haven't yet got to their level, and I'm not sure who else is likely to get there. Possibly Cork, if they're anyway properly run.

Though I don't think it's a problem limited to this year - Rovers v Flora was just as bad a result for example, and there's been plenty of key missed chances down the years.

Mura are 1-0 up into the second half - 3-1 on aggregate - so they should be playing Pat's next week.

Sligo are unbelievably poor so far. Really fortunate not to be two down.

Bala just missed a one-one-one it seems.

I think Dog and Duck 11 is a bit harsh on Bala, who've been regulars in Europe and have picked up a fair bit of cash from that, but they are a small Welsh side a month away from their first league game of the season, so while Sligo should finish stronger, it's really poor to be facing into extra time after 150 minutes of the tie. Winning these games is pretty much the main reason we switched to summer soccer.

1-1 now in the Mura game. Say it every year but some mad scores doing the rounds tonight.

    2-1 so tie over.

Tis a great time of the year alright!

Bruno's Magpies equalise in Belfast, speaking of mad scores. They're 3-2 up on aggregate

You can really see the affect tonight of the removal of the away goals rule. The amount of matches going to ET and even penalties.

Newtown win on penalties. Let’s hope that is the only Welsh win tonight in ET.

It's clear that it's competitive even at this level. Welsh side Newtown are through to the next round on penalties. San Marino club might go through this round. It's just sad that there is no ambition either from the FAI to have a clear goal to move from low ranking league to less lowly ranked league etc.
Shamrock Rovers last year were disappointing, hopefully they show some ambition to win 1 more tie along the way.

Tre Fiori are 4-1 up in that tie vs Fola. Looking good. Crazy stuff that we may have no winners from the two ties. Desperate stuff.

They do. Just a pity it's practically impossible. (Is it 30th in five years?)

Whather they get through e should just refuse to nominate Sligo for Europe anymore even if they are top 3 or 4 or cup winners!!! These lad are preseason part-timers.

The bala players are tiring a bit i think. In fairness to sligo supporters they haven't stopped chanting the whole extra time

If a full-time team in midsession, can’t out last a part-time team in preseason during ET, then it really is time to give up.

Larne down to ten men and still 0-0 on aggregate against a Gibraltar side. Crusaders losing to another Gibraltar side

They’ve 15 minutes to pull it out of the bag or I guess we’ll really see how good of a keeper McGinty is.
