Yep, in the Examiner an hour ago. That's an unexpected one!

Edit - same link as 2-year-contract gave actually.

It would be a excellent signing. A three year deal is a major incentive if the deal gets over the line.

Looks like its almost a done deal, plus it seemed to have happened very quickly too after Daniel McD tweet last night, as I said some signing.

Only thing, he is 33 I read, still looks in very good shape, wonder what the contract deal will be at that age for a striker?

Kelleher has the bit between his teeth for next season by the looks of it.

If this goes through for Doyle and looks like it will, its probably clear that Kelleher had his sights firmly on Hoban, up to the SOD Paavola.

More like Kelleher has his sights on using large settlement by SOD to pay for Doyle😜

Ha - could be right, but in fairness if this is a 3 year deal, Doyle will be 36 when its up, good deal for him and one he wouldn't get in UK.

Still if Pats get the best out of him for 1-2 years, still a good signing if they re-qualify for europe during that period.

Signing Eoin Doyle is a bit like when we brought Chris Forrester home from Aberdeen. It sounds very unlikely when you hear the first speculation but when it happens it makes perfect sense. Pats have lacked an effective no 9 since Christy Fagan. Georgie Kelly should have been the one but in his half season with us he never got going. Last season we played without one but we had prolific goal scorers in wingers (Smith, Burns, King) and midfield (Forrester). They’re all still with us apart from Smith who is unlikely to return to our league and has been replaced by Mark Doyle who outscored him last year. Now we have one of the most prolific 9’s this league has ever produced and we have Tunde to replace him in every game as defences tire and burn them with his pace. I don’t see a stronger attack in the league.

Of course there are still a few gaps to plug in defence and maybe one in midfield but I’m sure the next week or so will reveal all.

Now that Pats are back on the European money-making machine it looks like Kelleher is investing to make sure they make the most of it.

The 3 year deal is probably what brought him back , its a bit too generous for a 33 year old imo but im sure pats wont mind dealing with the last 12 months of the deal if he produces and helps them progress in europe. Think he'll crack 20 goals next season.

Settle now PD, we all know Pats had Hoban as their no 1 target, Doyle is 33 and as much as Dundalk are re-building, (and believe me, A LOT of work to do) Hoban is still the best striker (by a distance) in the league, with back up from a hatrick cup final winner from 2020.

Doyle is a good signing, Tunde is excellent too btw, but come on now old son relax.

I’m not claiming Doyle is better than Hoban (though he may well be). But put together the goal scoring records from last season of the two Doyles, Owalabi, King, Burns and Forrester and tell me where you see a better attack. Certainly not in Oriel (on signings to date at any rate).

Although that’s a great anecdotal stat for any player to have, McMillan's 4 league goals in 32 games since returning from his disaster in Scotland is probably the more relevant stat to go on

Doyle is better than Hoban. That is not a big statement to make, Hoban failed miserably at a level Doyle succeeded comfortably at. Doyle also succeeded at a higher level again.

I know it isn’t black and white but to me Doyle certainly a better player than Hoban, and considerably so.

sorry i couldnt let that go.
Eoin Doyle is considerably a better striker than hoban. Considerably. To suggest otherwise is just laughable in the extreme

I'm gutted he chose pats over Rovers, but if as it says in the link that pats threw money at him, fair play to pats and kelliher.
Tunde is another decent signing by them, btw.

if they could get a decent keeper and someone to replace lee desmond, pats will do alright next season

Great signing for Pats. I’ll add my voice to the list of those who think Doyle is better than Hoban. The length of contract might raise eyebrows. He’ll be 37 a month into the third season. Do you get hung up on details like that and possibly not sign a striker of his caliber? I’d rather sign him. Three year deal part of the attraction for the player and I’d imagine he’ll do enough over the length of the deal to have been worth it.

I don’t disagree with you but just to point out he will be 34 in March so he’ll be 36, not 37, in his third season.

the 3rd year of the contract is probably what sold doyle the deal. i wouldnt be a fan of the 3 year deal given his age but pats wont mind the trade off and swallowing that 3rd year if he produces for the first 2 seasons and helps them in europe. hes easily a 20 goal striker at this level .

These deals are how clubs go broke, having a 36year old on the decline as close to your highest paid player is not the right way to run your club, he may do fine year one but these deals never work out well for the club over the course of the deal
