Always baffled me why some people only rushed out and bought the lotto when it was a roll-over 3m instead of the usual 1,500,000 to 2,000,000.
Whats their reasoning like?
Has anyone noticed the rolling over of the Euro Millions lottery? The jackpot will be an estimated 81m! Even the secondary prize is a good half a million minimum. Rovers fans get playing, it could be you who saves the club.![]()

City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.
O'Bama - "Eerah yeah, I'd say we can alright!"
G.O'Mahoney Trapattoni'll sort ιm out!!
Because playing the Lotto every week is for suckers, but having a flutter every now and then is ok.

I'm sure all the suckers who've won big money would disagree. After all, if you're not in you can't win.Originally Posted by dahamsta

I put my own mother and father in that bracket btw. My mother still plays it regularly despite the fact that, as a pensioner, she'd be better off keeping it. And my father used to spend ridiculous amounts of money on it out of "business expenses", and he'd've been better off spending it on himself.
I'll lash 2 at Euromillions occasionally meself, maybe even semi-regularly, but the amount of money I've seen people ploughing into the lottery is just ridiculous. People who obviously can't afford it walking into shops with sheafs of lotto tickets. It's very sad to see.

It fascinates me too. I work in a shop. Someone comes along and asks what is the jackpot. I tell them 1.3m (the minimum for the Irish lotto). They say "Ah, sure I'll wait till it gets bigger.". However this jackpot is special. Unlike the paltry (by comparison) Irish lotto jackpots you would actually be made for life by winning this. I think Adam's cynicism is unwarranted though as I see many people who are neither stupid nor desperate playing the lotto and you also cannot ignore its charitable contributions.Originally Posted by Risteard
Obviously there are plenty of people playing who can afford it PS, but I'd bet that at least half of those charitable contributions are coming out of the pockets of people could do with a bit of charity themselves.

Adam in my experience only the not so poor play more than 2 a week which I think is reasonably expendable.
Lads,
this euro lotto draw is it like ireland one with draw on mid week and weekend or does it have only one draw?
One draw on a Friday, at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised if that's upped though.Originally Posted by swinfordfc

That's fair enough PS, but my own experience is different. Sure I've seen queues of people well able to afford it in my local shop, but I've been in local shops in less affluent areas too, and to my mind those people were spending well beyond their means on the Lotto, and other forms of gambling of course.Originally Posted by Poor Student

I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
Of course the odds are ridiculous but it's a form of gambling so maybe it is for suckers. I might add that my cousins husband has won it twice. The first time was the second lowest value in lotto history and he shared it with a mate.
Second time he won it again but was quite low having been won the week before.
Here they come! Its the charge of the Thanks Brigade!
It probably was steroetyping to a degree Paul, but seriously...
I got five numbers once, the prize was ridiculously low, few hundred quid. Still, can't complain. But I doubt I'll ever play the Irish Lotto again.

One of the customers in my family's shop won it years ago in a shop around the corner which has actually had 2 or 3 winners. It was around a IR£1,000,000. He's still a miserable so and so who wears tatters and plays it compulsively. My primary school caretaker won it too. He was also a miserable grumpy man who it changed very little. Our shop is in a less than affluent area Adam. From my observation (I've operated lotto machines for hours on end) most people play modestly with only the odd person going nuts. One old couple spends over 50 a go on the 5-4-3-2-1.Originally Posted by Kingdom

Incidentally the 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes on the Euromillions run into the 1,000's. The odds though are massive even compared to the Irish lotto. I won 10 last week on a free ticket the old man gave me. I "reinvested" it for this week. Fingers crossed.![]()
If i win the 80 million euro i think i'll take Monday off work........Might even take Tuesday off too![]()
no winner... 96 million next week!
bah, i had myself convinced i was going to win it too..
although this morning my 6 year old brother called to my house, came in and put on scooby doo on my tv, which made me smile and realise that money cant buy happiness
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?
it can buy you many tvs though. in fact, it could probably buy you many 6 year olds.Originally Posted by Ruairi
