Straightforward win for Dundalk once they got going. Seemed to want to gift Longford a goal in the last couple of minutes though.
Credit to whoever does the PA for the Dexys megamix at half time for those of us who appreciate that sort of thing.
Theyre as much as a financial basketcase as LoI has ever been only the state covers the shortfall. They wont dare to cut their star earners or cut back on the endless amount chatshow drivel for every d lister on their books so not a surprise. The have to make cuts somewhere, LoI, regional studios, outside broadcast fleet, the canteen staff and the like is their effort to convince govt civil servants that they are streamlining the organisation.
Goal difference separating Bohs/Derry/Dundalk for what might be a Euro spot. Derry play Dundalk and Sligo. Bohs play Rovers and Sligo.
Goal difference separating Waterford and Harps at the other end, and they both play Longford and Pats.
Could barely have scripted that better
We interrupt the RTE bashing for some facts - the Cup semis scheduling was nothing whatsoever to do with RTE who wanted to cover both - carry on.
And what's the excuse for not showing games for months on end in the middle of the season?
Feel free to challenge the rest of the facts while yer at it! Scheduling of the 2 games may not have been RTE (both were covered on different platforms!?) , how about all those other games that could have been covered - actually dont bother replying in case the Head of RTE Sport might wind himself up in to the standard RTE defensive rage at any criticism!
This was the 7th home win on the trot for Dundalk in all comps, pity left it so late to kick start the season, could easily have finished in the euro places if all the self inflicted messing didn't happen.
Getting 4th is still possible but as I posted over w/e - would have taken far too many IF's and Buts, given the season we had, I`d be happy with 5th and the right take over to be completed, which seems to be gathering pace.
